Attention: Today’s EastEnders episode (aired on 7th April 2025) on BBC One and BBC iPlayer may reveal crucial plot points, so proceed with caution if you want to avoid spoilers!
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve bid farewell to Martin Fowler in poignant scenes of EastEnders, as James Bye’s character was given a heartfelt goodbye on his last trip around Albert Square.
As a cinephile, I recently said my goodbyes to Martin Fowler in deeply moving EastEnders episodes, where James Bye’s character received a touching send-off as he made his final lap around Albert Square.
While Martin’s children were finding it tough to get ready for the day, his adoptive daughter Lily Slater (originally Lillia Turner) became enraged when mother Stacey (previously Lacey Turner) returned home intoxicated, having been away for several weeks on a milk float.
In the town square, Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) encouraged Martin’s friends as they walked with his coffin, a journey passing through the marketplace Martin cherished and defended.
Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) found solace in each other, as Ross Marshall (Alex Walkinshaw) stubbornly decided to attend the service to be there for Vicki, even though his presence was not wanted.
While battling emotions that prevented her from attending the funeral, Stacey, Martin’s genuine lover, confided in Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) about her self-blame for Martin’s demise. Eventually, Sonia managed to convince her to go to the funeral despite her initial reluctance.

In my personal opinion, as I sat watching the heartwarming tale unfold on screen, a pivotal moment arrived when Stacey crossed paths with Lily at Martin’s quaint little stall. It was palpable that Lily harbored a growing animosity toward her mother in this scene.
In response to Lily’s strong criticism of Stacey’s past actions towards Martin, including her behavior over time, which she labeled as unacceptable, Stacey struck her own daughter.
I followed Eve Unwin’s instructions and sent Stacey to the church, meanwhile, I struggled to locate Lily. In a moment of despair, she sought solace in Avani Nandra-Hart’s supply of alcohol that Aaliyah James had stocked up.
During the service, although Sharon was distraught and absent, Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth) delivered a heartfelt eulogy, remarkably noting that it should have been Martin who spoke at her own funeral.
Ruby Allen, played by Louisa Lytton, deeply regretted the potential future she believed was taken away from her, together with Martin and their son, Roman.
Near the graves of Pauline (Wendy Richard), Arthur (Bill Treacher), and Mark Fowler (Todd Carty), Stacey recalled the countless instances when Martin had come to her rescue.
Next, Gillian Wright (Jean) gave Stacey a scoop of soil from Martin’s garden plot for her to scatter over the casket.
Throughout the show, there were tender references to Martin, as Anna Knight (played by Molly Rainford) playfully mentioned that the produce vendor Martin, who was known for it, would often gift her a complimentary banana in the past.
Alfie Moon, a West Ham fan portrayed by Shane Richie, playfully commented that marching to the rhythm of Martin’s Spurs soccer squad during the parade was pushing tribute a bit too far.
A particularly poignant scene unfolded when young Arthur (Rocco Brenner) and Hope (Isabelle Smith) intertwined their fingers in the church, both grappling with the immense grief of losing their father, Martin.
Indeed, it marks a significant change as Walford bids farewell to Martin. However, rather than finding solace, the relationship between Stacey and Ruby seems poised for conflict. Will those who cherished him be able to unite in his memory amidst these escalating tensions?
