Marvel Already Planning Fantastic Four Sequel: A Sign of Big Things to Come!

There’s approximately a month left until “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” premieres, yet Marvel Studios is already contemplating the team’s future on the big screen. Following Disney/Marvel locking in a December 2028 release date for another unnamed MCU film, Variety highlighted potential projects that could debut during this timeframe. Among the titles mentioned is a possible sequel to “Fantastic Four”, along with other possibilities such as a new version of “X-Men”, “Black Panther 3”, and the long-awaited “Blade” reboot, which has been delayed since its initial announcement in 2019.

Before the Marvel’s First Family star in their own sequel titled “First Steps 2”, these characters will have significant parts to play throughout the rest of the Multiverse Saga. The actors Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are all slated to reappear in “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”. As confirmed by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, “First Steps” will serve as a prelude to the events of “Doomsday”.

The movie titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is slated to premiere in late July, joining other high-budget summer blockbusters such as “Jurassic World Rebirth” and “Superman.” It seems that the cinema scene will be bustling in this month. Tickets for “First Steps” were quickly snapped up when they became available earlier this month, and for a time, it held the record for the highest first-day sales on Fandango so far this year.

Fantastic Four: First Steps Raises a Major Question About Galactus’s Place in the MCU Multiverse

Marvel Studios finds itself in a crucial juncture, as it greatly hopes that “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” will become a significant box office success. The financial performance of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been lackluster in 2025, with both “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts” turning out to be underperformers. Contrasting this, the summer blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine” from 2023 raked in a billion dollars, but films like “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “The Marvels” faced commercial struggles in the previous year.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel exhilarated by the news that a new Fantastic Four sequel is being developed. This isn’t just any sequel; it’s a sign of Marvel’s confidence in the film and their belief that it will resonate strongly with audiences. Previous attempts to bring this iconic team to life on the big screen didn’t quite hit the mark (resulting in two series that didn’t sustain long-term interest). But, as they say, third time might just be the charm.

From what I’ve seen so far, Kevin Feige seems to have found a way to finally do these characters justice, and I’m intrigued by his approach. Ever since the start of the ‘First Steps’ marketing campaign, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans like myself have been eagerly anticipating this reboot. The initial trailer released back in February garnered an impressive 200 million views within its first day.

Marvel’s enthusiasm towards the Fantastic Four suggests that viewers will likely embrace their appearances in upcoming films like “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars,” boosting interest in their future within the MCU. While the two “Avengers” films aim to conclude the Multiverse Saga, they may also pave the way for the next chapter of the MCU. It’s anticipated that mutants will be central in the franchise post-“Secret Wars,” but Marvel intends to maintain a presence of familiar characters, potentially creating sequels centered around beloved figures. When Marvel Studios embarked on the “Fantastic Four” reboot, they likely envisioned these heroes as long-term fixtures. Ideally, a “Fantastic Four” series could become a cornerstone in the ongoing MCU.
