In this issue of All-New Venom #6, artist Carlos Gomez showcases his disdain for the character Paul Rabin, who’s often criticized in Spider-Man circles. This release unveils how Mary Jane Watson came to be bonded with the Venom symbiote, a mystery that surrounded All-New Venom. Fans had speculated that one of four suspects – Luke Cage, Robbie Robertson, Madame Masque, and Rick Jones – was actually the All-New Venom. However, these characters turned out to be red herrings, leaving many fans hoping Paul Rabin would be revealed as the true Venom. Unfortunately for Paul, this wasn’t the case, adding another disappointment to his list of losses in the eyes of fans. To add insult to injury, the artist of All-New Venom added a humorous twist to a previous issue, further exacerbating Paul’s plight.
In early January, artist Carlos Gomez posted an uncolored page from All-New Venom #2 on social networks that showed a discussion between Paul Rabin and Robbie Robertson. Unlike the dialogue in the published comic, here Paul expresses his self-doubts by questioning why fans don’t seem to appreciate him. He defends himself passionately, pointing out his man bun, beard, and even mentions using steroids. “But… but I grew a man bun, I’ve got the beard and not to mention the steroids!” Paul exclaims. “Why don’t they like me?” he asks.
Robbie replies, “Hey, it’s possible that you’re an exceptional, annoying bartender… but we fervently wish that the ASM [Amazing Spider-Man] fans could see you vanish into nothingness.” This playful scene humorously hints at why Paul is so disliked by some.
The latest Venom sequel has just hit theaters! Gomez added this humorous caption: “ALL-NEW VENOM 2 OUT NOW! Sunday fun day,” reflecting the comical twists in All-New Venom #6. Here, Paul faces criticism from Mary Jane, Venom, and Robbie over his creation of MJ’s Jackpot device, which could potentially lead to her demise due to its three skull option. Furthermore, Paul discovers that the connection between Mary Jane and Venom is the cause of their recent lack of intimacy.
She remarks, “Yes, it’s getting rather crowded in here.” Meanwhile, Robbie casually sips his coffee and averts his gaze during the moment of discomfort.
In a more rephrased version, the text can be expressed as follows:
Paul often appears clingy and whiny. When Paul believed Mary Jane had perished during the ‘Venom War’, he felt a sense of relief upon seeing her enter their apartment. However, Mary Jane did not share the same emotions that Paul experienced. The latest issue of All-New Venom hints at Paul gaining clarity by its end. When Dylan Brock, who once hosted Venom, returns home, he makes an inappropriate joke about MJ and Paul having a non-exclusive relationship. Despite acknowledging the openness and honesty of the other two individuals involved, he expresses doubt about his ability to maintain a relationship with three people.
It’s clear that his comments suggest Mary Jane and Venom are hiding things from him, and it’s unclear if Paul will actually carry out his threat to end things with Mary Jane, or if we’ll keep hearing more about his frustrations and feelings of being neglected by her.
