As a longtime Marvel fan who has witnessed the evolution of the Ultimate Universe, I am thrilled to see the introduction of a new Hawkeye. Not only does this character bring freshness and diversity to the team, but their environmentalist stance is a timely and crucial addition to the narrative.
In the upcoming addition to Marvel’s Ultimate Squad, known as The Ultimates, a fresh take on Hawkeye will be joining the team. This isn’t Clint Barton or Kate Bishop, but an entirely unique character that offers a much-needed diversity boost for the Ultimate Universe. Characters like Wasp, Giant-Man, America Chavez, and She-Hulk have recently been integrated into The Ultimates to combat The Maker and his sinister council, who have distorted the world in their twisted image. Marvel has hinted at Hawkeye’s arrival in issue #5 of The Ultimates, and now we’re getting a sneak peek into this new Hawkeye’s identity and objectives.
In a sneak peek at issue #5 of Ultimates, written by Deniz Camp, Juan Frigeri, and Federico Blee, Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, engages in a conversation with Captain America about the enigmatic Hawkeye. It seems that when Stark dispatched gifts to various characters within the Ultimate Universe to ignite their heroic endeavors, only Spider-Man accepted his offer. Clint Barton, the original Hawkeye, discarded his purple costume in a bin as a nod to “Spider-Man: No More!” However, someone retrieved the Hawkeye suit and Stark Tech arrows, donned them, and began using the identity for their own purposes. We discover that this new Hawkeye is of Native American descent and is engaged in a covert battle against Roxxon Corporation and its ecological pollution. Troubled by the possibility that his technology may be misused, Stark asks Captain America to probe the matter, leading to a confrontation between Ultimate Hawkeye and Captain America.
Marvel’s Ultimate Hawkeye is an environmentalist
On the Triskelion, Tony Stark and Captain America view news reports showing Roxxon facilities attacked over five months. At each location, arrows were discovered, suggesting Hawkeye as a suspect. Captain America admires the new Hawkeye’s accomplishments, but Iron Lad expresses disapproval. Upon analyzing the data, it appears that Hawkeye ranks quite low in heroism, falling into the bottom 10%. We also learn about the impressive capabilities of these Stark Tech arrows; a single arrow can track a target up to 40 miles away, puncture battleships, and disable electronic devices within a 200-yard radius.
On another page, you’ll find the encounter between Hawkeye and Captain America, in which Hawkeye playfully calls Captain America a “cowboy.” Despite starting off on rocky terms, it’s crucial for these two to set aside their disagreements and team up before Hawkeye officially joins the Ultimates.
You can take a look at the preview of Ultimates #5 below. The issue goes on sale Wednesday, October 9th.
