As a seasoned gamer with a deep affection for tabletop miniatures games, especially those based on the Marvel universe, I can’t help but feel both excited and a bit overwhelmed by Atomic Mass Games’ latest announcement for Marvel: Crisis Protocol. With new characters like Jean Grey (Phoenix) and Spider-Man 2099 joining the roster, not to mention the intriguing War of Kings Character and Crisis Pack that seems to be introducing narrative play, my inner collector is itching for these additions to my ever-growing collection.
Marvel: Crisis Protocol is set to introduce a number of fresh Marvel characters in the coming period. Among them are an enhanced Jean Grey and figures from the Spider-Verse. In a recent announcement, Atomic Mass Games unveiled their plans for upcoming releases in the Marvel: Crisis Protocol miniatures game. Upcoming additions include a formidable new Phoenix (accompanied by a Dark Phoenix miniature), Spider-Man 2099, Abomination, the Wrecking Crew, and an assortment of Inhumans miniatures featuring a new Black Bolt. All these releases are slated for 2025, after several previously announced sets have been launched.
A surprising revelation was the introduction of the “War of Kings” Character and Crisis Cards set, an innovative box set offering a Gladiator miniature and linked missions based on pivotal moments from the “War of Kings” saga. This marks a new product category for “Marvel: Crisis Protocol,” potentially signaling a shift towards narrative-driven gaming experiences instead of isolated contests.
In the initial stage of 2025, the spotlight will be on enhancing existing groups, namely the Midnight Sons, Inhumans, and Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, who will all gain extra resources. While it’s not mandatory for every character in a team to represent a specific faction, at least half of them should, in order to maximize the advantages of a group’s Leadership bonus.
Upcoming releases for Marvel: Crisis Protocol include:
- Angel & Archangel
- Sunspot & Warlock
- Weapon X & Maverick
- Mephisto
- Abomination & Wrecking Crew
- Tomb of Dracula
- Monsters Unleashed (Werewolf by Night, Living Mummy)
- War of Kings Character and Crisis Pack
- Nova and Yondu
- Elsa Bloodstone and Man-Thing
- Avalanche, Exodus, and Lady Mastermind
- Phoenix & Phoenix Unleashed
- Inhuman Royal Court
- Spider-Verse Character Pack
- Echo, Tigra, and Ronin (Clint Barton)
An Apocalypse figure was also shown off but was not included in the game’s release timeline.
