Marvel Editor Teases "Giant-Size" X-Men Plans

As a seasoned gamer with decades of comic book adventures under my belt, I can confidently say that the X-Men are undoubtedly one of the most iconic and captivating teams in the Marvel Universe. The news about the upcoming “Giant-Size X-Men” in 2025 has sent a thrill down the spine of every X-fan like me!

The embers of yesteryears ignite the blaze of tomorrow! This phrase marked the beginning of Giant-Size X-Men #1, penned by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum in 1975. It introduced a revolutionary 68-page issue that rebranded the plain old X-Men as Uncanny X-Men. The fresh and diverse team – Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Sunfire, Thunderbird, and Banshee, under the mental guidance of Professor X – united to rescue the original X-Men from the sentient island Krakoa. Years later, this “Second Genesis” paved the way for the X-Men’s Krakoan Age, ushered in by Jonathan Hickman in 2019

Marvel Comics reintroduced the “Giant-Size” series in 2005 and later in 2020, publishing a collection of standalone issues penned by Hickman and focusing on characters such as Storm, Magneto, Nightcrawler, Fantomex, Jean Grey, and Emma Frost. The latest iteration of the title, titled “Giant-Size X-Men” (2024) #1, hit shelves in May, marking part of Marvel’s ongoing series of “Giant-Size” one-shots celebrating 50 years of oversized comics, with a nod to the first issue of the 1974 “Giant Size Super-Star” series

In his recent Substack post, Tom Brevoort, Marvel Comics’ Vice President and Executive Editor, hinted at new Giant-Size X-Men issues coming out in 2025 as part of a 50th anniversary tribute to the release of the first Giant-Size X-Men comic in 1975. Brevoort wrote, “You can expect some fantastic Giant-Size X-Men content in 2025 for this milestone event, but not quite as you’re thinking. Keep an eye out for updates.”

Marvel unveiled the line-wide relaunch of the X-books in July, which features prominent titles like “X-Men” by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman, “Uncanny X-Men” by Gail Simone and David Marquez, and “Exceptional X-Men” by Eve L. Ewing and Carmen Carnero

In the upcoming months, the X-Men’s “From the Ashes” era will grow to include several new comic series. This includes ongoing titles like Wolverine, Storm, Psylocke, and Laura Kinney: Wolverine, as well as limited series such as Dazzler, Sentinels, and Mystique, following the reintroduction of NYX, X-Force, and X-Factor

As a devoted fan, I’ve found myself in a thrilling new era for the X-Men. Following the conclusion of Krakoa, our beloved mutant team has dispersed across the globe, each title serving as a unique operational base. Earlier this year, Brevoort shared that the flagship series – X-Men, Uncanny, and Exceptional – are all core X-titles, each focusing on a key aspect of our team’s rich history. This intentional design ensures a diverse range of X-books catering to various tastes, offering different styles, tones, and approaches for an X-Men experience tailored to every fan
