Marvel Enters Its DOOM Era In Major Way With “Blood Hunt” Finale Twist

As a seasoned Marvel fan with decades of comics under my belt, I must say that the “Blood Hunt” crossover storyline has truly been a thrilling ride! The unexpected twist of Doctor Doom stepping into the role of Sorcerer Supreme is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing developments in recent memory.

As a devoted fan, I’m excitedly immersed in Marvel’s DOOM Era, thanks to the gripping twists of the ongoing “Blood Hunt” crossover storyline in Marvel Comics. It turns out that Eric Roberts, also known as Blade, has been under the control of Varnae, an ancient Atlantean sorcerer who was the first vampire and once commanded all of vampire-kind before Dracula rose to power. Using Blade as his puppet, Varnae tapped into the Darkforce Dimension’s power, casting a shadow over the sun that allows vampires to feed without restriction.

In the latest issue #5 of Blood Hunt, as a gamer immersed in this Marvel-ous world, I’ve found myself right in the thick of things with Avengers and other iconic heroes. We’re on a double mission: rescuing Blade from Varnae (or putting an end to him permanently), and cleansing the skies from the oppressive Darkforce. The latter calls for Doctor Strange, who’s currently in astral form, and Clea to scour for a sorcerer potent enough to lead the ritual to dispel the darkness – and lo and behold, they’ve found that powerful sorcerer in none other than Doctor Doom!

In a desperate situation, Doom exploits the crisis to compel Strange into a predicament: he does propose to save the world – but on the condition that Strange transfers his powers and the title of “Sorcerer Supreme” to Doom. With time rapidly dwindling, Strange finds himself with limited choices and relinquishes his title to Doom – albeit with the proviso that Doom must give back the power once he has saved the world.

Indeed, Doom stays true to his agreement – primarily by assembling a group of sorcerers and carrying out the ancient Atlantean rite to counteract the Darkforce and restore light to the world. Following this ritual, The Avengers, Dracula’s progeny Bloodline, and Blade successfully vanquish Varnae and halt the relentless vampire onslaught from engulfing everything. In the story’s aftermath, Strange and Doom remain in the Astral Plane, whereupon Strange requests his powers back. Doom adheres to this promise, albeit with a twist: He contends that he has not yet managed to save the entire world, so he refuses to renounce his position as Sorcerer Supreme.

The Mighty Avengers discover that things have taken a turn when Doctor Doom transmits a global message claiming responsibility for eradicating the vampire menace. He further proclaims himself as the latest Earth-bound Master Sorcerer, a title previously held by others.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel the chills running down my spine at the thrilling conclusion to “Blood Hunt.” It seems that the stage is set for the upcoming storyline, “One World Under Doom,” which promises a dark and ominous tale. Marvel Comics unveiled tantalizing glimpses of this storyline during San Diego Comic-Con 2024, revealing intriguing details about Victor von Doom’s reign. In a twist of fate, as Marvel Studios announced the commencement of their own “Doom Era,” with the return of none other than Robert Downey Jr., reprising his role as Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I can hardly wait to see how this epic saga unfolds!
