Marvel Fans Rally for Channing Tatum's Gambit to Appear in Avengers: Secret Wars

As a hardcore gamer and Marvel fan who’s seen more superhero films than I care to count (and that’s saying something!), Tuesday’s revelation about Gambit’s possible return had me jumping out of my seat faster than Wolverine can pop his claws! Ever since Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie got scrapped, fans like myself have been pining for the Cajun card-slinger to grace our screens once more. And now, with Ryan Reynolds dropping hints about that “Marvel sparkle circle,” it looks like we might just get our wish!

Following the cancellation of Channing Tatum’s movie, Gambit, after Disney bought 20th Century Fox, fans had been questioning if they would ever witness Tatum portray the cherished X-Men character, a role that both Tatum and fans are equally enthusiastic about. This summer, their wish came true as Tatum donned the hero’s costume in Deadpool & Wolverine, though the film’s ending left Gambit’s fate uncertain. However, on Tuesday, fans were filled with hope once more when Ryan Reynolds shared footage from the blockbuster movie hinting that Gambit might have survived. Now, fans are already mobilizing to decide where they want to see Gambit appear next.

As a gaming enthusiast, I was thrilled when Ryan Reynolds shared a sneak peek from the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine flick on social media. However, it might have gone unnoticed by many fans since the clip was shown on a compact TV screen at the TVA. In the scene, Channing Tatum’s Gambit is wandering through the wreckage left by the battle in the void. What caught my eye was him reacting to one of those familiar Marvel portal openings, casually referred to as a “Marvel sparkle circle” by Reynolds, which appeared just off-screen. This subtle detail could hint that Gambit may not be trapped in the Void for long.

Given that there might be a chance for Gambit’s return, fans are already buzzing and have suggestions about where they’d like him to reappear next: Avengers: Secret Wars. Fans swiftly expressed their opinions on the subject through social media. Some can’t wait to see Tatum back as Gambit, while others have detailed ideas about how his comeback should unfold.

In the heat of Secret Wars, I couldn’t help but wonder: what if Doctor Strange had opened a sling ring portal right smack in the middle of it all? And there stood Deadpool and Wolverine, inviting me to join them!

Some enthusiasts are optimistic about Gambit appearing in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ due to timing, as they worry that actor Taylor Kitsch, who has expressed interest in portraying this character for a while, might miss out on the chance as he gets older.

“@SaintBernard_EZ” wrote: “I’m not sure if Disney/Marvel has plans to incorporate Gambit into their upcoming universe, but since Channing Tatum may be too old for future X-Men adaptations, I propose they cast him in ‘Secret Wars’ and then retire the character from the X-Men.”

What Happened With the Gambit Movie?

After a long journey filled with numerous hurdles, including multiple director changes and script revisions, Channing Tatum finally got the chance to play Gambit in the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine”. This film project had been under development at Fox since 2014. However, when Disney acquired Fox and its Marvel characters, many assumed that the Gambit movie was no more. In an interview conducted in 2023, Tatum shared that he had to relinquish his hopes for the movie, emotionally letting it go.

Originally, our movie project was incorporated into Disney through their acquisition of Fox. However, it appears that our vision for the film significantly differed from what Disney (or Marvel) had planned. Maybe they wanted to see how things would turn out with or without us involved. Tatum expressed this at the time. Since then, we’ve made occasional contact, but we need to emotionally, spiritually, and mentally let go of the project.

As a die-hard Marvel fan, I’m pumped about stepping into the Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine movie, where Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine are set to rewrite the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This action-packed adventure also features Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, with familiar faces like Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar. Aaron Stanford is back as Pyro from the X-Men film series, and there’s even talk of Jennifer Garner returning as Elektra Natchios! Can’t wait to see what twists and turns this movie has in store for us!

Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy, and Lauren Shuler Donner are the main producers of this project, with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, and Simon Kinberg serving as executive producers. The script for Deadpool & Wolverine was penned by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, and Shawn Levy. This film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine premiered exclusively in theaters on July 26th.
