Marvel Introducing Amaranth, Scarlet Witch’s Protégé

Marvel Introducing Amaranth, Scarlet Witch's Protégé

As a longtime fan of Marvel Comics who’s witnessed the evolution of Wanda Maximoff from a tormented villain to the powerful Scarlet Witch, I couldn’t be more thrilled about this latest development! Scarlet Witch getting a new protégé is like getting a second chance at mentoring, and it seems Marvel has crafted an intriguing character in Amaranth.

It appears that Scarlet Witch, or Wanda Maximoff, will be getting a trainee, whether she’s ready for it or not. Wanda has earned hero status with her Avengers membership and solo series, using her powers through the Last Door to aid those who enter her shop. She and Darcy Lewis work together in this endeavor. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver recently marked their 60th anniversary, but a reboot of Wanda’s series will add another challenge for her: an apprentice. Amaranth is a new character developed by artist Jen Bartel for Marvel’s New Champions cover project and will officially join the Marvel universe this fall.

In November, Marvel revealed the covers for issue #6 of Scarlet Witch, where the primary cover by Russell Dauterman shows Wanda Maximoff alongside her new protege, Amaranth, and Agatha Harkness. Interestingly, Amaranth was once a pupil of Agatha, just like Scarlet Witch. In this issue, Scarlet Witch is assigned to delve into the mysterious past of Amaranth while assisting her in mastering her growing magical abilities.

Scarlet Witch writer teases new prot?g?

Orlando expressed his fascination with Amaranth ever since her stunning appearance on Jen Bartel’s cover. He found himself questioning who she was and what her story held – more like unraveling a mystery. When the opportunity presented itself to introduce Amaranth into SCARLET WITCH, he jumped at the chance. By guiding Amaranth through the Last Door, we can delve into the questions surrounding her while collaborating with the creative team. This scenario allows us to flip Wanda’s dynamic by presenting her with a powerful, enigmatic character she struggles to understand – a reversal of earlier events in Wanda’s life. Amaranth’s special abilities suggest a notable lineage and strong power, but her life has been marred by sadness. There might not be anyone in the Marvel Universe who can aid her, but if there was, it would undoubtedly be the Scarlet Witch.
