As a gamer with over two decades of Marvel-themed gaming under my belt, let me share my thoughts on the enigmatic tale that is Agatha All Along. It’s been a rollercoaster ride filled with suspense and intrigue, much like the endless corridors of the Darkhold itself!
Throughout the entire season, Agatha All Along left Marvel Cinematic Universe viewers in suspense over whether or not Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) would reappear as the Scarlet Witch. Earlier, it appeared that Wanda had perished at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, following a deadly rampage through various realities as the Scarlet Witch. Yet, Agatha was careful not to mention Wanda or her recent state – and this was definitely deliberate.
In a recent interview after the finale of Agatha All Along, WandaVision and Agatha showrunner Jac Schaeffer discusses the ambiguity surrounding whether Wanda is alive or dead. When asked about the line from Aubrey Plaza’s character Death in Episode 1, where she says “That witch is gone, and all copies of the Darkhold with her,” Schaeffer explains that Agatha was unable to provide an answer on Wanda’s status, and Death chose not to reveal it.
According to Schaeffer’s perspective, these stories are likely to progress, and he can’t predict the exact direction they might take. However, he believes Agatha may be uncertain about Wanda’s fate, and he seems convinced that Rio is aware of something in this regard.
Schaeffer subsequently shared fresh ideas for MCU enthusiasts to explore, as she disclosed that Marvel Studios emphasized certain language to be utilized when speaking about Wanda: “I believe the term ‘gone’ is significant. I was directed to employ the term ‘gone.’
What Happened To Wanda After Doctor Strange 2?
In the Marvel Studios universe, the word “Gone” carries significant weight, especially following the revelations in Agatha All Along. The series finale concludes with Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness embarking on a journey to find where Tommy’s soul currently dwells, as his body was not completely destroyed. This was determined during the seance spell in Episode 8, revealing that Tommy’s spirit remains somewhere out there, not truly vanished. Although the series moved through this rather swiftly, it suggests that if such a resurrection or spirit transfer is possible for a character originally created by a hex, then why not apply it to the Scarlet Witch?
It’s unclear exactly what transpired when Wanda, with her unique powers, eradicated every copy of the Darkhold across all realities and destroyed the original inscriptions of the Darkhold spells within the walls of Wundagore Mountain. The collapse of the mountain itself wouldn’t have been enough to harm the Scarlet Witch; instead, it appears that the immense release of power and the potential backlash or cost of annihilating the Darkhold may have brought about her downfall.
As a fan, I’ve come to realize that the world of Agatha All Along paints a fascinating picture where witchcraft and magic can indeed bend or negotiate life and death in ways beyond our ordinary understanding. It seems plausible that Wanda might be trapped in another dimension or an ethereal state, waiting for a proficient sorcerer to help her return.
So, Scarlet Witch: “gone” for now, but hopefully back soon.
Agatha All Along is streaming on Disney+.
