The release dates for the upcoming Avengers films, “Avengers: Doomsday” and its sequel “Avengers: Secret Wars”, have been postponed. Originally scheduled for May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027, respectively, they will now be shown on December 18, 2026, and Dec. 17, 2027. According to various sources, the reason behind this delay of nearly seven months is due to the grandeur and magnitude of these films, which Marvel insiders claim are their most ambitious projects ever.

View Urgent ForecastDisney has moved the release date of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” to coincide with “Doomsday,” and the fifth “Avengers” film will now debut against Disney’s own “Ice Age 6” (both set for December 18). This puts the Dwayne Johnson-led “Jumanji 3” from Sony one week later, while “Shrek 5” from Universal and Illumination is scheduled a week before on December 23 in the Christmas movie corridor. Previously, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures had claimed the December 18 release date for “Dune 3,” directed by Denis Villeneuve.
2021 marked the debut of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” produced by Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, as the first Marvel Studios film to premiere in December. Previously, Disney’s superhero blockbusters had been released primarily during the summer months (May through July). The movie hit theaters on December 17, 2021, and raked in an impressive $1.92 billion at the worldwide box office, making it Sony’s highest-grossing film ever. It also ranked as the third highest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe film, with only “Avengers: Infinity War” (released in April 2018, earning $2.05 billion) and “Avengers: Endgame” (released a year later in April 2019, earning $2.79 billion) surpassing it in box office revenue.
The premiere date for “Avengers: Doomsday” is set a month later than when main filming began in the United Kingdom.
In March, Marvel conducted a five-and-a-half-hour live broadcast where they revealed 27 actors who will reprise their roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among them is Robert Downey Jr., who’ll play Doctor Doom wearing his metallic mask, and “Doomsday” promises to bring together Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). The project will also include regulars like Anthony Mackie (Captain America) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), as well as returning stars such as Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Danny Ramirez (the Falcon), Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor the Sub-Mariner), and Winston Duke (M’Baku).
The cast of the movies “Thunderbolts” and “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” both set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be joining forces this summer. The Thunderbolts crew consists of Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, John Walker played by Wyatt Russell, and Lewis Pullman portraying Bob Reynolds/Sentry. Meanwhile, the newcomers from “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” include Pedro Pascal taking on the role of Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Thing.
Channing Tatum, known for playing Gambit, will once again take on his beloved role in the Deadpool and Wolverine universe alongside actors from the X-Men films produced by Fox. Veteran cast members like Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and Kelsey Grammer as Beast will also be part of this exciting ensemble.
Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios and a producer, has revealed that the full roster of actors for upcoming projects is yet to be disclosed, with additional stars expected to join in the near future, possibly during Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July. Some notable characters missing from the initial lineup include Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Benedict Wong as Wong, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and Chris Pratt as Star-Lord. Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers are also rumored to make a comeback, while further details are yet to be announced.
2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Disney’s cinema offerings! Their lineup includes “Hoppers” from Pixar (released March 13), followed by “The Dog Stars” from 20th Century (March 27). The sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada,” titled simply “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” hits theaters on May 1. Later in May, we have “The Mandalorian and Grogu” from Lucasfilm (May 22), followed by “Toy Story 5” from Pixar (June 19). The live-action adaptation of “Moana” is set for July 10.
Originally scheduled for July 31, Sony’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” a Marvel Studios co-production, has been moved to December 18. In its place, “Avengers: Doomsday” will be released in the pre-holiday slot usually reserved for big Disney hits like “Star Wars” and “Avatar.
