Their conversations often have a playful older/younger sister dynamic, yet beneath the surface lies a deep-seated drama that truly resonates with these characters who both harbor a profoundly dark past – particularly when it comes to the topic of mutant survival. Emma Frost endured the heartrending loss of her students, The Hellions, in a Sentinel attack, and let’s not forget the harrowing debut of her diamond skin ability that enabled her to survive the Genosha Massacre; meanwhile, Kitty has faced her own brushes with death and corruption. Their contrasting views on educating future mutants have also led to contentious debates. With this intriguing dynamic already in place, Exceptional X-Men is poised to deliver the kind of juicy drama that makes the X-Men so compelling.
In the initial pages of “Exceptional X-Men” #1, we witness a young girl attempting to join her friends at a nightclub. However, the bouncer refuses her entry, triggering an emotional response that unleashes her mutant abilities for the first time, leading to chaos. Despite Kitty’s efforts to stay out of it, a man pulls out a gun when the situation escalates, compelling Kitty to intervene and protect the girl from danger.
As a diehard fan, let me tell you, the sneak peek at Exceptional X-Men is simply a tantalizing morsel of what’s in store for us – and it’s clear that this book will keep me engrossed from start to finish, far from the tedium of a dull read.
