Marvel Reveals New Sorcerer Supreme (And Their Powers Are Different From Doctor Strange)

As a longtime Marvel enthusiast who’s witnessed the rise and fall of countless heroes and villains, I must say, the introduction of Inan as the Ultimate Sorcerer Supreme is nothing short of exhilarating! The unique twist on the traditional Sorcerer Supreme role, coupled with her extraordinary powers, promises an exciting addition to the Marvel Universe.

Switching things up a bit, Marvel has unveiled a fresh Sorcerer Supreme to take over from Doctor Strange. The title of Sorcerer Supreme is fiercely sought after, leading to its snatch by Doctor Doom in the climax of Blood Hunt. As we gear up for “One World Under Doom”, Marvel’s Ultimate Universe has also unveiled a rendition of the Sorcerer Supreme. While details about this character are scarce, it’s clear that their magical abilities differ significantly from those possessed by Stephen Strange or even Victor Von Doom. Fortunately, this new Sorcerer Supreme is an ally to Black Panther. Caution: The following content includes spoilers for Ultimate Black Panther #10. Proceed at your own risk!

Issue #10 of “Black Panther: Ultimate” is penned by Bryan Hill, illustrated by Carlos Nieto, colored by David Curiel, and lettered by VC’s Cory Petit. The primary narrative revolves around Erik Killmonger and Storm, who previously liberated the imprisoned Sorcerer Supreme. Black Panther aims to enlist the Sorcerer Supreme in his battle against Moon Knight, and so far, she appears receptive to aiding him. Her name is Inan, and though she briefly tasted freedom, her captors are already pursuing her once more.

Marvel’s new Sorcerer Supreme shows off her unique powers

On board the freighter Storm, Killmonger and Inan are under attack by a helicopter firing bullets. Killmonger is hit in the abdomen, but Inan urges Storm to attend to him while she concentrates on their assailants. Inan employs her mystical abilities to halt the helicopter mid-flight and disable its rotors. As the helicopter plummets into the sea, Inan summons a colossal shark from the depths to consume it. Before the attack, Inan summoned the shark as a demonstration of her powers.

A remarkable ability that Inan possesses is her capacity to aid Killmonger by manipulating time and space, thereby expediting his natural healing. Unlike Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who required the Time Stone to rewind time, Inan, as the Ultimate Universe’s Sorcerer Supreme, can perform this feat without any of the cosmic Infinity Stones. With a mere spoken command, she alters time and space according to her will, making her a potent adversary for anyone who crosses her path. Initially presented as a mysterious, eerie sorcerer in Ultimate Black Panther #9, Inan is portrayed as more tranquil in Ultimate Black Panther #10. This transformation might be due to Inan gaining her freedom and no longer being shackled. The issue concludes with her opening a portal and adorning Doctor Strange’s signature red cloak.

Inan, also known as the Supreme Sorceress, adopts the moniker Godkiller. She extends her aid to Black Panther with the intention of vanquishing Moon Knight. Inan is one of many well-known Marvel characters being integrated into the Ultimate Universe in innovative fashions. For instance, The Ultimates have recently introduced Ultimate Hawkeye, a Native American warrior fighting covertly against Roxxon and their ecological pollution. Additionally, among The Ultimates is a She-Hulk who isn’t Jennifer Walters, and in future editions, we’ll encounter the Ultimate Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Ultimate Sorcerer Supreme may not be Doctor Strange, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t more than earned the mantle.

Ultimate Black Panther is available at Marvel Comics.
