Marvel Rivals – Black Widow Channels Overwatch’s Widowmaker in New Reveal Trailer

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen heroes rise and fall in the gaming world. From the mighty Widowmaker to the agile Black Widow, it seems we’re revisiting the sniping assassin trope.

Following the launches of Squirrel Girl and Iron Fist, NetEase’s Marvel Rivals has unveiled a fresh trailer for Black Widow! The ex-assassin, now part of the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D., showcases skills similar to Widowmaker from Overwatch. Here are some of her powers detailed below.

As a gamer, I’d say the standout feature about Natasha is that she doesn’t need to recharge her shots – even regular body blows pack a punch. She’s also got some moves up her sleeve like grappling enemies and kicking them back. In close combat, she can switch to dual batons to fend off melee attacks. Her Ultimate ability slows down enemies in a certain area, giving me an easier time landing those headshots.

Considering the criticism Widowmaker has faced throughout her tenure, could Black Widow encounter a comparable outcome? It remains to be seen, but since there are numerous Duelists in the mix, it’s likely that there will be multiple strategies to counter her tactics.

Marvel Rivals is set to debut on December 6th, available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
