Marvel Rivals Nintendo Switch Version Shot Down: "No Discussions"

As a long-time Nintendo Switch fan, I must admit my initial disappointment upon hearing that Marvel Rivals won’t be gracing our beloved console. Having grown up with the unique charm and portability of Nintendo systems, it feels like a missed opportunity to not experience this exciting new Marvel game on the go. However, as someone who’s been around the gaming block a few times, I understand the complexities of development, hardware limitations, and market strategies that often lead to such decisions.

The game titled “Marvel Rivals” is scheduled for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S starting December 6th. Unfortunately, this means Nintendo Switch users won’t have access to it, as there are currently no plans to develop a version for the Switch or mobile devices. In an interview with Pocket Tactics at Gamescom, the game director Thaddeus Sasser stated that there have been no discussions about creating a Switch or mobile version. One reason for this decision is that “Marvel Rivals” was developed using Unreal Engine 5, which may not be suitable for the game due to its performance issues on Xbox Series S, as mentioned by Pocket Tactics.

It’s plausible that the game “Marvel Rivals” might find its way onto Nintendo’s upcoming console, which is tentatively known as the “Switch 2.” Although we don’t have a confirmed name for this new system yet, it’s expected to be unveiled within the next seven months. At present, information about the new console is scarce, but it’s believed that it will surpass the current Switch in terms of power. If this proves true, we may see games like “Marvel Rivals” announced for the new system, but whether or not this happens could depend on the game’s ability to continue attracting players on its existing platforms.

At this point, Nintendo enthusiasts will have to make do with various Marvel games on their Switch console for now. The system is already home to titles such as “Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3” and “LEGO Marvel Super Heroes”, and next month brings the arrival of “Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics”. There’s a lot of excitement around this Capcom collection, given that it includes several well-received games that haven’t been accessible for a while. Importantly, the game “Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection” won’t be available on Xbox, but will exclusively launch on Switch, PC, and PlayStation. Despite the disappointment of not getting “Marvel Rivals” on their preferred platform, such system exclusions occasionally occur!
