Marvel Solicitations Tease Cyclops’ X-Men vs. Rogue’s Uncanny X-Men

As a seasoned comic book aficionado with memories of countless battles between mutants and their adversaries etched into my mind, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation as I delve into the upcoming X-Men adventures set to unfold in 2024. The plotlines seem rich and intriguing, with the X-Men grappling with global conspiracies, uncovering secrets hidden within remote towns, and facing off against seemingly unstoppable forces of evil.

Ever since the debut of the X-Men in 1963, the majority of mutants have found themselves torn between the ideologies of Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto – either striving for harmony between mutants and humans or asserting the dominance of mutants over humans. While both Xavier’s X-Men and Magneto’s Brotherhood of Mutants once shared the island-nation of Krakoa, the Krakoan era has now ended. The new phase began when Marvel rebooted their entire X-Men series, establishing two key figures as the cornerstones of the House of X: Cyclops and Rogue.

Following the relocation of mutants worldwide, Charles Xavier finds himself imprisoned by Warden Ellis, who transformed his school for gifted youngsters into a mutant detention center, accused of crimes against humanity. As a result, the X-Men have fragmented into various groups.

In issue #1 of X-Men, written by Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman, Cyclops has established a base within an old Sentinel manufacturing facility in Alaska following an agreement with the U.S. government after his trial (refer to Scott Summers vs. The United States). Cyclops leads his own mutant squad consisting of Beast, Psylocke, Kid Omega, Temper, Magik, and the Juggernaut, under the supervision of Magneto. However, their covert operations have attracted the attention of O*N*E Agent Lundqvist.

As a gamer, I’ve been following Cyclops and the X-Men on their mission to monitor unusual mutations in Santo Marco and later San Francisco. Their goal is to prevent any chaos that could be caused by these new enigmatic villains known as Fourth School and 3K. Simultaneously, in Gail Simone and David Marquez’s Uncanny X-Men #1, I find myself identifying with Rogue, Gambit, and Wolverine as they seek shelter at an orphanage in Louisiana.

As the group debated if there could be an X-Men team without Charles, Cyclops, and former X-Man Kate Pryde, Rogue’s X-Men encountered a group of four young runaway mutants known as the Outliers, who were prophesied to bring about the end of all mutant existence.

In brief encounters, the characters named Cyclops (Rogue in the Uncanny X-Men #1) and Rogue (Cyclops in this week’s X-Men #3), have clashed. Their heated argument culminated in an abrupt end over the phone; the remainder of their conversation will unfold in September’s Uncanny X-Men #2. As the story progresses, upcoming issues seem to be setting up a confrontation between Cyclops and Rogue, with their conflict reaching its peak in December’s X-Men #8.
