Marvel Spider-Verse Comic Introduces the Multiversal Sinister Six

As a comic book enthusiast with over three decades of collecting under my belt, I must say that the latest development in the Marvel Comics universe – the Sinister Squadron – has me both excited and apprehensive. The Spider-Verse has always been a fascinating tapestry of alternate realities, and the emergence of this new threat promises to add another layer of complexity to the already intricate narrative.

A fresh issue has arisen in the intricate Arachno-Humanoid-Poly-Multiverse, known as the Sinister Squadron. Following the release of last year’s animated film, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” which introduced the Spider-Society – an elite team of top Spider-beings committed to safeguarding the multiverse – Marvel Comics has been hinting at a catastrophic peril to the Web of Life and Fate. In the February issue of “Edge of Spider-Verse” #1, the psychic Madame Web assigned Miguel O’Hara, Spider-Man 2099, with gathering other Spider-heroes to create the Spider-Society.

However, in issue #1 of “Web of Spider-Man” from March, Miguel was surprisedly attacked by the Green Goblin (Gwen Stacy’s version), which resulted in Anya Corazon, also known as Araña, taking on the task of gathering the Spider-Versers for this week’s “Spider-Society” #1.

The inaugural issue of a four-part series penned by Alex Segura (The Edge of Spider-Verse) and illustrated by Scott Godlewski (Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace), introduces a covert agent within the Spider-Verse team. This includes Ara?a from Earth-616, Cooper Coen/Web-Weaver from Earth-71490, Hobie Brown/Spider-Punk from Earth-138, Spider-Cat from Earth-999, Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven the Hunter-Spider from Earth-31, Peter Parker/Weapon VIII from Earth-72, and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman (voiced by Issa Rae) from Earth-332, as seen in Across the Spider-Verse.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my excitement after witnessing Gwen Stacy, also known as Ghost-Spider from Earth-616, go head-to-head with the Earth-65 version of Gwen Stacy (Goblin Queen) at the Spider-Society HQ. The battle was intense, and our beloved Gwen emerged victorious. However, the surprise revelation left me in awe – the Sinister Squadron, it seems, is a formidable alliance comprising villains from various Spider-Verses!

The enigmatic head of the Malicious Gang intends to dismantle the Spider-Community before it becomes fully established, but the Spider-villains are directed to apprehend the Spider-Community instead of harming them. When the Gang captures individuals like Gwen and Miles Morales, Madame Web tells Anya to rescue “the chosen ones.” There’s a power at work that’s making it difficult for Madame Web to predict the future, and it’s thought this unknown entity might be the one controlling the Malicious Gang.

Miguel O’Hara is the “cornerstone” or “pivotal figure,” according to Web, prompting the Spider-Guild to save Spider-Man 2099, Ghost-Spider, and Miles’ Spider-Man. The team led by Anya locates Miguel, but they unwittingly step into a trap set by Halloween Jack. It’s revealed too late that Hunter-Spider was the traitor, making him the last member of the Sinister Squadron, who encircle the Spider-Guild to conclude issue #1.

Spider-Society #2 is on sale September 18th from Marvel Comics.
