Originally scheduled for an August 15, 2025 premiere, the release date for Chris Pratt‘s upcoming sci–fi thriller “Mercy” has been pushed back to January 23, 2026. This change makes “Mercy” the only significant movie slated for release on that date in 2026. The vacant slot on August 15 now belongs to Universal Pictures’ action sequel “Nobody 2“, starring Bob Odenkirk and Connie Nielsen. Directed by Timur Bekmambetov and written by Marco van Belle, “Mercy” tells the story of a detective (Pratt) fighting to clear his name after being accused of a violent crime in a future where capital crimes are on the rise.
I‘m thrilled to share that in the movie Mercy, I‘ve had the pleasure of working alongside some talented actors who have graced the screens in popular productions. Rebecca Ferguson, known for her role in the Dune franchise, is a part of our cast. So is Kali Reis from True Detective: Night Country, Annabelle Wallis from Malignant, Chris Sullivan of This Is Us, Kenneth Choi from 9–1–1, and up–and–coming actress Kylie Rogers from Beau is Afraid. Lastly, Rafi Gavron, who starred in A Star is Born, and Jeff Pierre, from Walker, round out our exceptional cast.
In April 2024, the announcement was made that the project would be delayed, as the actor had sustained an injury while filming Mercy several months prior. He revealed this news on X (previously known as Twitter), along with pictures of his injured ankle.
On the fourth day of filming “Mercy“, Pratt expressed his admiration for his exceptional stunt team. Occasionally, he even attempts to join in and perform some stunts himself. Today, however, dad accidentally hit a metal post on his ankle. Let‘s see how things progress from here.
In a June 2024 conversation with Collider, Ferguson shared some insights about her character, Maddox, as well as the reasons behind her desire to portray the AI judge in the series Mercy.
In her own words, “The character was captivating, yet the discussions with Timur Bekmambetov, the director, and Chuck Rovan, the producer who worked on ‘Oppenheimer‘, were about the direction they envisioned for Maddox‘s character. I have a limited range of expressions and subtle nuances in my acting performance. It sometimes feels like I‘m confined within an artificial realm. However, I choose roles based on the characters themselves and what new aspects they offer.
Ferguson also described her co–star Pratt as “the loveliest, kindest, and very smart human being.”
She didn‘t seem surprised; instead, she was delighted to collaborate with such wonderful individuals. She considers herself quite fortunate, she mentioned. He‘s a bit of a joker but also incredibly intelligent.
