Marvel Studios In Talks With Russo Bros to Direct Avengers 5 and 6

Marvel Studios In Talks With Russo Bros to Direct Avengers 5 and 6

As a huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I am thrilled to hear that Joe and Anthony Russo are in talks to return to direct Avengers 5 and Avengers 6. The Russos have a rich history with Marvel, having directed two of the most successful MCU films of all time: Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. These movies served as the epic conclusion to the “Infinity Saga” story arc, leaving fans eager for more.

Marvel Studios has announced that Joe and Anthony Russo will once again take on the director roles for the upcoming films Avengers 5 and Avengers 6, which were originally named Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. However, these titles have been changed as Marvel Studio decided to make some adjustments to its Marvel Cinematic Universe series.

The Russos, who are responsible for Marvel’s highest-grossing films, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, which concluded the “Infinity Saga” storyline in the MCU, have since moved on to establish their own production company, AGBO. Through this venture, the brothers have produced a range of high-budget films and TV series. Notable projects under their belt include Assassination Nation, the Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once, Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction, Ryan Gosling and Netflix’s The Gray Man, and an array of upcoming projects such as new versions of Poltergeist and The Thomas Crown Affair, a Guy Ritchie Hercules film, and a sequel to The Gray Man.

The Russos, who had worked extensively in the MCU following Avengers: Endgame, gave signs of needing a break around 2022. Joe Russo stated that they wouldn’t be prepared to collaborate with Marvel again until the end of the decade. However, they left the possibility open for future projects with Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios.

I’ve had countless conversations with Kevin Feige, Lou D’Esposito, and Victoria Alonso from Marvel Studios over the years. Consider them my friends in the industry. We’re always discussing potential projects, and when the right opportunity arises for all of us to collaborate again, you can bet I’ll be fully committed.

The Russos, known fans of Marvel Comics’ Secret Wars storylines, openly expressed their enthusiasm for potentially directing an MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) film based on this narrative. In 2022 interviews, Joe Russo confirmed their strong interest in the project, despite it not being imminent at that moment.

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “When asked if we’d collaborate with Marvel Studios, my answer is an enthusiastic yes. I mean, who wouldn’t love to work with them? And when they ask what we’d be interested in doing, I instantly think of ‘Secret Wars.’ It was a favorite series for me growing up. But let me clarify, there’s no current collaboration underway. Our focus has been solely on our own projects and schedules.”

It might be an ideal moment for the Russos to collaborate with Marvel Studios once again: Marvel is currently working on reviving its box office performance in both TV and film projects, with Disney CEO Bob Iger advocating for a return to large-scale event films as the cornerstone of the MCU. The Russos, as mentioned, have directed two of the biggest blockbuster hits in cinematic history. However, they could benefit from producing a few more box office successes, which would not only strengthen their resumes but also contribute to the growth of their next projects through AGBO.

As a gamer, I’m following the latest news and right now, there are rumors that negotiations are ongoing behind the scenes. We’ll keep you posted on any updates regarding these talks. Marvel Studios is probably making sure everything is in order before their grand reveal at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H next week.
