As a long-time gamer with a soft spot for Capcom and Marvel crossovers, I must say, it feels like Christmas came early this year! After years of waiting, Xbox fans are finally getting a piece of the action with both the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics and Capcom Fighting Collection 2.
Initially, the announcement for “Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics” was made in June, set to release on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. This sparked enthusiasm among fans, yet left Xbox users feeling let down. Since then, Capcom announced “Capcom Fighting Collection 2,” without an Xbox version as well. Today, however, there’s good news: Capcom and Microsoft have reached an agreement, ensuring that both of these fighting game collections will be playable on Xbox One in the year 2025.
“In an update on their Facebook page, Capcom shared that they have collaborated with Microsoft regarding the releases of ‘MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics’ and ‘Capcom Fighting Collection 2’. According to their announcement, these games will debut on Xbox One in 2025, so keep an eye out for additional details!”
The “Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection” is slated for digital launch on September 12th across Steam, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. A physical edition with an accompanying comic will follow on November 22nd. As of now, details regarding the Xbox version are scarce, with no word yet on whether it will have a physical release. The previously announced versions will be available before the Xbox version, although the exact timing is not specified. In contrast, “Capcom Fighting Collection 2” currently has no confirmed release date beyond the year 2025, suggesting it may launch simultaneously across all platforms.
While both of these announcements are welcome news, Xbox fans should be particularly happy about Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection. After all, both Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite were previously released on Xbox One. With the arrival of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, the entire series will be playable on the platform. It’s unclear why Capcom was planning to avoid an Xbox release in the first place, though it might have something to do with companies currently having doubts about the brand’s future. Regardless, it’s great to see this resolved for Xbox users!
