As a long-time Marvel Comics fan, I am absolutely thrilled to see the company celebrate its 85th anniversary with such an amazing tribute to its rich history. The release of these stunning Marvel 85th Anniversary Homage Variant Covers is a testament to the enduring legacy of Marvel’s golden age heroes like the Human Torch, Angel, Namor the Sub-Mariner, and Ka-Zar the Great.
Around seven decades before the emergence of the Fantastic Four, Hulk, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the Avengers marked the beginning of the Marvel era in comics. However, this trend was initiated with the publication of Marvel Comics #1 in 1939. Contrary to its name, this 65-page comic was actually the pioneering superhero title from Martin Goodman’s Timely Comics – an earlier version of what would eventually evolve into Marvel Comics. Inside, readers could follow the thrilling adventures of the Human Torch, Angel, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Masked Raider, and Ka-Zar the Great.
To put it another way, Marvel is marking its 85th anniversary by releasing a fresh batch of variant covers. These covers pay tribute to the early days of Marvel Comics, which were originally published under the name Timely Comics. The classic issues of Captain America Comics, All-Winners Comics, and Sub-Mariner Comics are being reimagined, and will grace the covers of upcoming editions of Fantastic Four, Amazing Spider-Man, Venom, Incredible Hulk, and the revamped X-Men series.
