In the third installment of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” the beloved Marvel gang ventured off on a completely fresh journey, enriched by the addition of new characters and the unique relationship between the group and an alternate version of Gamora (Zoe Saldaña). Prior to this cinematic journey, the Guardians had angered the Sovereign by pilfering from them. This disagreement spawned a powerful entity capable of effortlessly overpowering the team. Enter Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), a formidable adversary for the team, despite his limited social graces due to being manufactured within an artificial pod.

Constantly Sekeris, a key member of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Art Department, recently unveiled on social media an early concept of Adam Warlock, played by Will Poulter. The snapshot presents an alternative design for the character before the studio finalized the antagonistic version viewers saw in theaters. This alternate Adam Warlock design is unique as it showcases the character in distinctive armor reminiscent of Marvel Studios’ work on Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Ultron (James Spader). This appearance contrasts sharply with the final depiction of Adam Warlock, which was more fabric-heavy and resembled the Sovereign’s established aesthetic.
Is the Alternate Look Better?
In the upcoming film “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3”, there’s an alternate design for Adam Warlock that differs from his final appearance in the movie. Just because it’s different, it doesn’t automatically make it superior. Instead, this alternative design appears more like intricate armor. However, the storyline for Adam Warlock in the sequel revolves around him discovering his own humanity and personal desires, which contrasts with what he was assigned to do by the Sovereign. If his attire were armored, it wouldn’t have symbolized Warlock’s journey towards finding his humanity. Moreover, the robotic appearance would resemble characters like Vision (Paul Bettany) and Iron Man, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe already has enough mechanical characters in space.
As a dedicated cinema enthusiast, I recall that by the end of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” Adam Warlock was introduced as part of Rocket’s (Bradley Cooper) team, and his final outfit aligned perfectly with the team’s aesthetic once he joined. It’s been about two years since the threequel graced our screens, yet Marvel Studios has kept quiet about the future of these characters. A fourth “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie is still up in the air, and the fate of Adam Warlock remains a mystery. If this character ever reappears in another tale, it’s unclear if he will retain the look he donned in his introduction, given that he received a snazzy Guardians of the Galaxy uniform for the next phase of his journey.
As Marvel Studios deliberates the future of the Guardians of the Galaxy, they’re simultaneously advancing the production of “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” It remains undecided whether Adam Warlock will participate in these crossovers. On a confirmed note, Robert Downey Jr. will embody the villainous Doctor Doom, switching roles after over a decade as Iron Man. The Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have yet to encounter a threat as menacing as this one.
On May 2, 2026, the movie “Avengers: Doomsday” will be released in theaters. Meanwhile, the character Adam Warlock makes his appearance in “Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3,” which can be streamed on Disney+.
