As a longtime Marvel enthusiast and avid gamer who has followed the development of Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers since its inception, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia mixed with a dash of disappointment upon learning about the scrapped She-Hulk content.
Initially, Crystal Dynamics had ambitious ideas for the game Marvel’s Avengers, but unfortunately, they were forced to scrap much of their intended content when support for the game ended in 2023. In the time leading up to this announcement, several credible leaks surfaced online, suggesting that various Avengers characters were being worked on at different stages of development. One of these characters was Jennifer Walters, also known as She-Hulk. Recently, a trustworthy source, Miller Ross, has revealed some details about how She-Hulk might have been incorporated into the game.
As a gamer, I was eagerly anticipating Season 2, where She-Hulk was set to make her grand entrance. This season promised some intense storylines for both me (Jen) and the Winter Soldier. In a surprising twist, we were the last characters added to the game.
1. In the Marvel’s Avengers game, She-Hulk’s combat style emphasized grappling techniques. Actress Krizia Bajos lent her voice to this character, having previously voiced Camila Vazquez in the Spider-Man series from Marvel. Bajos is also known for her work as Renee Montoya in Gotham Knights and Batman: The Telltale Series.
Regrettably, plans for She-Hulk content didn’t materialize and will remain unrealized. After Crystal Dynamics’ game faced a commercial setback, Square Enix sold the studio. Last year, Marvel’s Avengers was taken off digital shelves, leaving those without a physical copy unable to play it. This is disheartening for She-Hulk fans, as she hasn’t had many video game appearances, including in popular titles like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. Here’s hoping Jen Walters gets another opportunity to make an impact in the future, and it’s fascinating to imagine what could have transpired!
