In issue #3 of the “Aliens vs. Avengers” comic series, writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Esad Ribic have introduced a terrifying new weapon that could take the live-action Alien movies to an even higher level of suspense and fear. This groundbreaking piece of sci-fi technology would fit perfectly within the celebrated history of weapons showcased in the Alien films, such as the M41A Pulse Rifle from James Cameron’s Aliens and the P-5000 Powered Work Loader used by Sigourney Weaver’s character Ellen Ripley. Fans are eagerly anticipating seeing this new weapon on screen in future movies.
WARNING: SPOILERS FOLLOW!
In the third installment of “Aliens vs. Avengers“, it’s Carol Danvers, Tony Stark, and Miles Morales who managed to flee Earth with the last remaining human settlement. The journey wasn’t easy; Tony’s colossal Avengers Tower spaceship took a beating during their escape, leading them to make an unscheduled stop on Mars for repairs. Ironically, Mars—once thought of as a potential mutant haven—has undergone significant changes since its last visit. Unfortunately, these alterations aren’t beneficial for the mutants who now call it home.
It turned out that mutants deeply regretted granting Mister Sinister membership within their Martian community. Instead of viewing the xenomorph species as a terrifying menace, Sinister regarded them as the ideal genetic containers: they could compel any intelligent life to mutate and advance into its peak form, while still preserving remnants of the original host’s DNA. Unfortunately, like several other non-organic characters in the Alien series, Sinister chose to exploit his companions as test subjects for his xenomorph studies – with deadly consequences.
Mister Sinister Invents Alien‘s First Facehugger Gun
When Tony, Carol, and Miles disembark from the ship in search of the X-Men, they instead stumble upon Sinister who has set a trap for them. He admits that he tricked the Avengers into leaving the ship, leaving the human colonists aboard defenseless. Seizing this moment, Sinister’s clones attack the ship, and through the use of a ‘facehugger gun’ of his own creation, they transform the crew members into unknowing xenomorph hosts.
Indeed, it’s chilling to acknowledge that Mister Sinister has indeed transformed the facehugger parasites into deadly projectiles, launching them from a cannon-like device. With this weapon, his clones swiftly infect an entire human vessel within moments, leaving a trail of horrifying transformations in their wake.
The use of xenomorphs as biological weapons has been a significant thread throughout the “Alien” series since Ridley Scott’s initial film in 1979. This theme has been further expanded upon in later movies like “Alien: Resurrection,” “Alien: Covenant,” and “Alien: Romulus.” However, the concept of a gun capable of firing facehuggers is something that would typically only exist in comic books. Now that this idea has become reality, it’s crucial to introduce it into the live-action series as soon as possible.
…There are numerous chances to delve deeper into this universe. The upcoming TV series, “Alien: Earth,” is set to debut this year. Although specifics about the plot remain secret, it’s speculated that showrunner Noah Hawley might focus more on the Weyland-Yutani corporation and its role in promoting the xenomorph cause (as it has throughout the films). This could potentially involve the creation of various bio-weapons related to xenomorphs. Meanwhile, in another part of the franchise, director Fede Álvarez is working on a sequel film for “Alien: Romulus,” hinting that he will guide the series into uncharted territory. Additionally, Álvarez has gained a reputation as an expert collector of “Alien” Easter eggs. Incorporating the facehugger gun from the comics into his next project would be a delightful treat for fans.
Aliens vs. Avengers is available to read at Marvel. The films can be streamed on Hulu-Disney+.
