In the final scene of Blood Hunt #5, Victor von Doom pledged to Doctor Strange that he’d use his powers to save the world. After Strange passed on the role of Sorcerer Supreme to him, Doom made a vow to relinquish this title once the task was accomplished. However, his mission was far from over. In a spellbinding move, Doom assisted Earth’s strongest heroes in putting an end to the vampire invasion. Addressing the Avengers, he declared, “You owe your victory to none other than Earth’s latest, exceptional, Sorcerer Supreme.
On his journey to claim the title of Sorcerer Supreme in Asgard, Strange finds himself, while Sam Wilson’s Captain America gathers a group of both heroes and villains to challenge Emperor Doom, who styles himself as the ruler of the world. Marvel presents this new team, the Superior Avengers, as being “deadlier, more ruthless, and simply superior compared to any previous Avengers lineup.
In this series, the team hailing from Latveria features Doctor Doom’s reimagined versions of villains such as Abomination, Doctor Octopus, Ghost, Killmonger, Malekith, and Onslaught. This six-issue limited comic book series is linked to the grand event “One World Under Doom“. It is penned by Steve Foxe (known for his work on X-Men ’97 and New Champions) and illustrated by Luca Maresca (famous for his work on She-Hulk and X-Men: Forever). Their artistry gives a unique Latverian spin to the adversaries of the Hulk (Abomination), Spider-Man (Doc Ock and Lady Octopus), Iron Man (Ghost), Black Panther (Killmonger), Thor (Malekith), and the X-Men (Onslaught). Check out these brand new characters below.
As a movie critic, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension when given the opportunity to introduce fresh faces into the expansive Marvel Universe. So, when editor Wil Moss approached me with the task of crafting an intense, enigmatic squad for the upcoming “One World Under Doom,” I knew it was time to take a bold swing.
Foxe went on to say, “The Avengers you’ll encounter in this book may bear familiar names, but they will soon make it clear why they believe themselves above other teams. This story includes some of the most intense, widespread action I’ve ever penned for Marvel, and I’m incredibly excited to be working on it with Luca Maresca. Luca masterfully captures both the intricate mental strategies within our narrative and the heart-pounding, high-speed action.
I’m really fond of Doctor Doom being one of my top villain picks, and I can hardly contain my excitement for fans to discover the tale behind his upcoming Avengers role,” Maresca stated. “When creating these characters, I aimed to preserve as many original features as feasible. Their attire or accessories often reflect their classic versions or media counterparts. I was thrilled to collaborate on the birth of new Marvel heroes. Bringing them to life and crafting their unique identities is something I truly enjoy. As the narrative unfolds, I can’t wait to unveil more about these characters, delving deeper into their personalities and revealing their innermost selves! Readers should brace themselves for some unexpected twists!
