Oh, my dear readers, I must say that the lives of these Marvel characters are as intriguing as they are captivating! Let us delve into the tumultuous journey of Victor Von Doom, the man who has been portrayed by none other than the charismatic Robert Downey Jr in the upcoming Avengers Doomsday film. From the cold, desolate steppes of Eastern Europe to the bustling campuses of New York City and finally to the throne of Latveria, his life is a testament to the indomitable spirit of mankind.
Before the Fantastic Four make their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four” film, and after Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. reappears in the MCU as Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars”, Marvel Comics is shining a light on the Fantastic Four and their long-time adversary, Doctor Doom, with both old and new comics. Beginning in 2024 and extending into 2025, Marvel plans to release Doom-focused events alongside reissues of classic Fantastic Four comics that star Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, Human Torch, the Thing, and Victor Von Doom.
The early editions of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s “The Fantastic Four” comics served as inspiration for the 1960s-style backdrop in Matt Shakman’s latest movie. Marvel is planning to retrace the Four’s initial journey by releasing a reproduction edition, which will reprint the first issue of “The Fantastic Four” from 1961 (#1), and they are also reissuing the first 30 issues of the original “Fantastic Four” series in a new Omnibus. This collection includes the initial issues of the renowned comic magazine, as well as the first “Fantastic Four Annual” issue, which features Namor the Sub-Mariner.
Apart from the fifth volume of the “Fantastic Four” Omnibus, which compiles stories penned by Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway during their tenure, along with art by John Buscema and Ross Andru, as well as issues from “Giant-Size Fantastic Four,” Marvel will also gather more of the ’70s series in the sixth volume of the “Fantastic Four” Omnibus. This upcoming release features Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott’s iconic cover for “Fantastic Four” #173, which famously showcases Galactus before his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut.
Following the November’s “8 Deaths of Spider-Man” event by Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness, where new Sorcerer Supreme Doom gifts Spider-Man a magical suit inspired by himself, the Marvel Universe will eventually bow down to Doctor Doom in the 2025 event titled “One World Under Doom”. In October, Marvel Comics will introduce a series of variant covers featuring Doctor Doom that will decorate upcoming issues of “Fantastic Four”, “X-Men”, “Venom”, and other titles. On October 23rd, the Avengers will encounter their own doom when Sorcerer Supreme Doom appears as a guest star in Jed Mackay and Farid Karami’s “Avengers” #19.
The paperback edition of “Doom” compiles all ten issues of the Doctor Doom series written by Christopher Cantwell, along with Salvador Larocca, while “Doctor Doom: Books of Doom” contains the six-issue limited series written by Ed Brubaker, delving into Victor’s origins and his rise to power as the ruler of Latveria.
