Marvel’s Fantastic Four Trailer Shocks Fans with Pregnant Sue Storm and Female Silver Surfer!

Marvel Studios unveiled a sneak peek of the upcoming film titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” at CinemaCon. The presentation included an extended preview that contained two notable surprises: Sue Storm is pregnant, and the female Silver Surfer, who was previously announced, made her first appearance in this showing.

Before hitting the public screens, the trailer unveiled the Fantastic Four prominently set within their unique Marvel Cinematic Universe. These heroes, who enjoy widespread acclaim and adoration, are already gracing talk shows. However, a change of mood occurs during a dinner scene where Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) and Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) arrive late. In this setting, they share the surprising news that Sue is pregnant, which was met with applause at CinemaCon, as it hints towards the MCU’s plan to introduce Franklin Richards, one of Marvel Comics’ most potent characters.

Johnny Storm, portrayed by Joseph Quinn, teasingly applauds them while subtly poking fun at Reed for having to “take charge.” This playful interaction adds a touch of humor amidst the generally foreboding preview.

Following this, the movie shifts focus to its primary danger: the emergence of the Silver Surfer, portrayed by Julia Garner in this adaptation. This gender-swapped depiction of the iconic Marvel figure comes to alert Earth about Galactus’ upcoming arrival, casting a foreboding shadow of the cosmic destroyer over New York City. As Garner plays the Surfer, she rides her signature board and conveys the grim message that Earth is slated for destruction.

The new interpretation of the Surfer has sparked debate among fans, who believe it carelessly dismisses the classic and profound representation of Norrin Radd from the comics. They hold dear the character’s moving past, stoic disposition, which are significant elements of the original Silver Surfer, and they are uncertain about how much of this essence will be preserved in Garner’s portrayal.

Approaching Galactus, I can’t help but feel the immense burden on Reed Richards’ shoulders as he grapples with protecting mankind. Simultaneously, Reed and Sue Richards promise to safeguard their child’s future amidst this looming threat. In the climactic scenes, the Silver Surfer is depicted riding the aftermath of an explosion, leaving a trail of fire and devastation behind him.

In a visually striking, retro-futuristic universe reminiscent of the 1960s, the movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” aspires to establish its unique identity within the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe multiverse. The film’s main cast includes Kirby, Pascal, Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach portraying Ben Grimm/The Thing, while Ralph Ineson lends his voice to Galactus. The movie is directed by Matt Shakman, with a screenplay penned in part by Josh Friedman, co-writer of “Avatar: The Way of Water,” and Cam Squires from “WandaVision.” Eric Pearson, the scribe behind “Black Widow,” provides the finishing touches.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set to release in theaters on July 25, 2025.
