Marvel's Jeff Goldblum Has Perfect Reaction to Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom Return

As a long-time Marvel fan and a connoisseur of iconic character transformations, I must say that Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom is nothing short of electrifying! The grandeur of this news has sent waves of excitement rippling through the Marvel community.

The Marvel Universe went through a significant change during the summer as it was announced that Robert Downey Jr., known for playing Tony Stark/Iron Man, will now portray Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom in the next two Avengers films, scheduled for 2026 (“Avengers: Doomsday”) and 2027 (“Avengers: Secret Wars”). This development has sparked a range of reactions from past and present Marvel stars, with Jeff Goldblum, who played the Grandmaster, being one of them. During a recent interview on “Happy Sad Confused”, Goldblum expressed his views on Downey’s return and also shared some thoughts about the name Victor von Doom itself.

Goldblum replied with a smile, “Fantastic information!” It seems I caught wind of something similar… yes, yes, I’d heard rumors at the edges. Yes, signals. Victor von Doom… I find that name intriguing. If my name were Victor von Doom, perhaps I’d be more advanced by now. That’s a powerful name, or Von for anything really. Or Van.”

Why Is Robert Downey Jr. Returning to the MCU?

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Downey shared that the idea of him playing Doctor Doom again had been suggested approximately a year before, stemming from discussions with Marvel Studios executive, Kevin Feige.

Around about a year ago, Feige and I had maintained our connection, leading to the point where we became friends. Similarly, Favreau, Feige, and I have remained in touch, as well as being close with the Russo brothers. We’ve got various business ventures ongoing. This group of associates, including myself, has been a consistent presence, and I felt an urge to approach Bob Iger. I had a unique idea about how I could contribute to what was happening within the parks and their various projects.

The movie titled “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to premiere only in cinemas on May 1, 2026. Subsequently, “Avengers: Secret Wars” will be screened on May 7, 2027.
