Marvel’s Kevin Feige Confirms Nova Project Is a TV Show, Reveals Timeline for Release (Exclusive)

As a long-time comic book reader and Marvel Universe enthusiast, I’ve always been eagerly anticipating the arrival of one of my favorite cosmic characters, Richard Rider, AKA Nova, in the MCU. Despite several attempts and rumors over the years, we’ve yet to see him make his debut. But finally, the wait seems to be coming to an end!

In simpler terms, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has yet to introduce one of Marvel’s most famous cosmic characters, Richard Rider, aka Nova, despite exploring the Marvel cosmos and introducing the Nova Corps. There have been efforts to bring him in before, but nothing concrete has materialized. However, according to ComicBook’s Brandon Davis, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that a Nova project focusing on Richard Rider is under development as a TV series, and it will likely be released within the next 3-4 years. So, it seems we are finally getting closer to seeing Rider make an appearance in the MCU.

It’s Happening

During the interview, Davis inquired about Nova’s current status. Feige replied, “Things are moving forward with it. Yes, that’s right, Richard Rider is involved.” Regarding the format of the project, Feige confirmed, “It will be a television show.” As for the release date, Feige mentioned, “We’re looking at a three to four year timeline for its debut.”

Previously, there were reports that Marvel was working on a Nova project based on Brad Winderbaum’s statements in an interview. Winderbaum expressed his enthusiasm for Nova and confirmed that they were in the early stages of development. With Marvel now functioning more like a traditional studio, they are producing more projects than they will eventually release. There are plans underway for Nova, with Winderbaum sharing his own fondness for the character. He expressed hope that the project would come to fruition amidst the chaos of production. Ultimately, he expressed a strong desire to bring a Nova series to life.

Nova and The Guardians

In an early version of the Avengers: Infinity War script, Nova was initially featured. However, despite the diligent attempts by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely to accommodate him, he didn’t make the final cut. It came as a shock that he wasn’t present in any of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, considering the significant role the Nova Corps plays alongside the Guardians. In an interview with James Gunn, the reason behind the absence of Richard Rider from his renditions of the Nova Corps was disclosed.

As a longtime fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, I can understand James Gunn’s perspective when he made the decision not to include Richard Rider, also known as Nova, in the team. From my own experience watching and appreciating the unique dynamics and worlds that the Guardians inhabit, I believe Gunn wanted to maintain the otherworldly feel of the show by having only one human character amongst a sea of diverse alien species.

I’m really looking forward to the Nova series! Feel free to join me in discussing all things comic books and Marvel on Threads and Twitter @mattaguilarcb. Let’s geek out together over this exciting new series!
