As a huge fan of Marvel and the MCU, witnessing Kevin Feige receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was an unforgettable moment for me. The atmosphere was electric, with numerous actors from the MCU in attendance, adding to the excitement. Feige’s speech brought back memories of my own childhood experiences. I could relate to how he spoke about taking pictures of stars on the Walk of Fame and learning about new names through that cyclopedia. It reminded me of the wonder and inspiration I felt as a kid, dreaming of being part of something magical.
At this afternoon’s ceremony, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Many actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) attended, such as Chris Evans, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Kathryn Hahn, Simu Liu, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, and Brie Larson, among others. Introduced by his longtime collaborator Louis D’Esposito, Feige took the microphone to express some heartfelt comments. He expressed gratitude towards his mentor Laura Shuler Donner and acknowledged the enthusiasm of fans from various fandoms. You can listen to some of his speech here.
Up until now, I believed that the most anxiety-inducing experience was giving speeches in public. But I’ve since discovered that an even more nerve-wracking situation is having others speak about you instead. Feige quipped, “Thank you all, and a big thank you to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This is truly a dream come true. I’m so grateful my parents are here today. They used to bring me from New Jersey as a kid, and we would occasionally visit L.A. We’d go to Disneyland and Universal Studios, and we’d also make a point to stop by the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As I ran around taking pictures with my disposable camera, I’d make mental notes of all the familiar names, but there were so many unknown ones as well.”
He remarked, “Upon returning home to the school library and flipping through the Cyclopedia, this was such a long time ago. I’d discover the names of my favorite writers, directors, and producers by checking them out on the walk of fame. Thus, I am immensely proud to carry on the tradition of those who contribute behind the scenes.”
A Long Time Mission Accomplished
Later in life, Feige expressed his desire to witness the original “Star Trek” cast members leaving their handprints at the TCL Chinese Theatre, much like a cherished memory. Inspired by this experience, he became determined to bring together the Avengers and replicate such an event.
While sitting among the crowd, watching the Star Trek team in action, an idea struck me: if only I could unite The Avengers someday, maybe we’d leave an indelible mark on cinema history. I thought I’d be allowed just one handprint, but they graciously let me use both. This place, where dreams come to life and stories unfold, is the realm I’ve longed for since discovering the magic of producing. To work alongside such gifted actors and storytellers in this cinematic universe has surpassed all my expectations.
