Following the conclusion of Netflix’s Power Man series on a suspenseful note, showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker is offering fans tantalizing sneak peeks into what might have evolved for Luke Cage. Through a string of recent social media updates, Coker has disclosed that significant advancements were made in the plotline for the potential third season, delving into Luke Cage‘s complex transformation into Harlem’s crime boss.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about the Marvel series we all love! Recently, our beloved creator, Mr. Coker, addressed fan questions regarding the open-ended finale, and here’s what he had to say: He’s been working on an expansive follow-up, where Luke Cage will take on the role of “the new Godfather of Harlem”! On January 25th, Mr. Coker tweeted, “I’ve got six episodes written, eight outlined, and thirteen projected…and nope, I’m not dishing out any details just yet.
In the previous year, the person in charge of the show revealed a series of episode titles inspired by songs from Public Enemy, keeping with the show’s habit of employing hip-hop music as a backdrop for each episode. This mirrored the approach used in earlier seasons, where Gang Starr tunes were utilized for Season 1 and tracks by Pete Rock & CL Smooth for Season 2. The choice of Public Enemy could be connected to the season’s exploration of public opinion and moral complexity, given Luke’s contentious move to manage the Stokes crime family’s activities.
Despite strong fan interest in the revival of the cancelled series, particularly given that Marvel’s Netflix productions have been acknowledged as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the announcement of “Echo”, actor Mike Colter has shared ambivalent sentiments about reprising his character.
Last year, Colter stated to ComicBook that he simply maintains a moderate level of fitness for general wellness, not necessarily with any specific roles like Luke Cage in mind. As far as he’s concerned, that chapter has passed and is now behind him.
However, Colter’s stance has softened after seeing Marvel’s approach to Daredevil: Born Again.
As a movie enthusiast reflecting back in 2024, I couldn’t help but express my sentiments when I said: “I yearned for a fresh take on it if they managed to weave an engaging storyline somewhere, somehow.” My stance remains firm that they should have steered clear of attempting a reboot. Honestly, I can’t fathom the reasoning behind it. It was a classic that didn’t need mending, so why tinker with it?
The proposed titles for Season 3’s episodes seem to indicate a deep dive into themes of power, public opinion, and ethical dilemmas: “Public Enemy Number One,” “Don’t Trust the Rumors,” “Louder Than Words,” “Burn Down Hollywood,” “You’ll Pay For It,” “Can’t Keep Up,” “Brothers in Arms,” “Can’t Help You Now,” “Shut Them Up,” “Show Yourself,” “Steel in the Hour of Conflict,” “Welcome to the Battlefield,” and “Rebel Without a Plan.
