In place of saying goodbye to the Avengers and welcoming the New Avengers, let’s express it as: From the farewell of Earth’s mightiest heroes following their victory over Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, there was a void in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when it came to a team of protectors. But with the arrival of Thunderbolts*, we discovered that this motley crew of antiheroes would eventually become known as the New Avengers. Given this new name’s cultural impact, it’s only fitting for Marvel Comics to launch a series called New Avengers. This transformation results in the rebranding of The New Thunderbolts* comic book to simply The New Avengers. Now, fans can follow along as two Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes join forces to bring together this new team.
In a new development, Marvel unveiled a sneak peek at issue #1 of New Avengers, penned by Sam Humphries, illustrated by Ton Lima, and inked by Rain Beredo. The story initiates with the Winter Soldier, or Bucky Barnes, dropping by a gas station owner in the arid expanse of New Mexico. This particular gas station proprietor has been dishonestly supplying information to Doctor Doom, who at present, rules the world in the One World Under Doom series. The Winter Soldier makes it abundantly clear that such actions are ill-advised by detonating the gas station. As Bucky strolls casually away from the ensuing blast, a mysterious figure approaches from behind and threatens him with a gun pressed against his skull.
It’s revealed that this individual is none other than Natasha Romanoff, also known as the Black Widow. The Winter Soldier and Black Widow collaborated in “Thunderbolts: Doomstrike,” a spin-off from “One World Under Doom,” but Bucky has grown tired of joint operations following that encounter. However, Black Widow is quite persuasive. After a romantic encounter, she informs Winter Soldier about the mission she’s assigned for him. It seems that a lumber camp in Russia is receiving genetic technology shipments, and more than 200 people from neighboring villages have gone missing. When Bucky suggests Natasha contact Captain America or Captain Marvel, she explains they are occupied.
After Doctor Doom’s global conquest, the world has become a grime-filled place, and traditional methods no longer yield success. Consequently, Winter Soldier and Black Widow will be compelled to employ unconventional tactics in retaliation. It is suspected that this ominous danger is closely linked to the Killuminati, sinister counterparts of the Illuminati. The Killuminati’s members are believed to include Thunderbolt (Black Bolt), Mr. Infinity Loop (Mister Fantastic), Mysterious Sorcerer (Doctor Strange), Professor Extinction Xavier (Charles Xavier), Luke the Destroyer (Luke Cage as Black Panther?), and Iron Peak (Iron Man).
Humphries proposed an intriguing twist: “Imagine if seven powerful figures were chosen, each hailing from distinct areas of the Marvel Universe โ mutants, mysticism, the Spider clan, gamma beings, and more. That’s the idea I pitched, and I owe a great deal to our fantastic editor Alanna Smith for backing it from the start, despite needing to coordinate with various Marvel editorial departments to bring it to life.
In the comic book series New Avengers #1, we find these characters: Carnage, The Hulk, Namor, Clea, and Wolverine – some of the most formidable loners and antiheroes in the Marvel Universe. However challenging it may seem for them to cooperate, Bucky Barnes (also known as the Winter Soldier) and the Black Widow are determined to bring them together. The reason? A twisted clone of the Illuminati is wreaking havoc on the world, and if these misfits can learn to function as a team, they could prove to be just as invincible as the original Illuminati members.
