Marvel’s New Teen Hero Might Outmuscle the Hulk!

The Hulk is the strongest character in existence, having destroyed both heroes and villains. He’s clashed with powerful figures such as Thor, the Avengers, the unstoppable Juggernaut, and Nova. However, a new teen hero from the Marvel Universe, who possesses a rocket-powered strength, is capable of overpowering Hulk, as depicted in issue #3 of New Champions. The story was penned by Steve Foxe (known for his work on X-Men ’97) and illustrated by Ivan Fiorelli (famous for his work on Fantastic Four).

The young superhero squad, originating from San Francisco, initially appeared in Foxe’s Spider-Woman series as part of The Assembly, a Hydra project designed to harness the abilities of gifted teenagers. After being liberated from Hydra’s mind control by Spider-Woman, they banded together to form the New Champions – a new superhero group consisting of Hellrune, a sorceress; Moon Squire, who boasts tactical skills and can absorb light; Liberty, equipped with cybernetic wings and capable of creating solid-light constructions; and Cadet Marvel, their powerful heavyweight member who flies at high speeds.

Following Hellrune’s enchantment, individuals with champion potential were brought together – this group included Fantasma the demonic derby girl, Spider-Boy without his web abilities, Hulkette with her gamma power, street magician Monte, Kid Juggernaut who charges like the original Juggernaut, super-genius Nightshade, skateboarding Deadpool Boy, Gold Tiger with golden claws, and Amaranth, an apprentice of Scarlet Witch who can neutralize magic. The core four then extended an invitation for them to join their team. (Fantasma, Gold Tiger, and Amaranth accepted the offer, while the others are on standby.)

In a clandestine alliance, Monte is working with Magnetrix, a Hydra program’s enigmatic, helmeted antagonist who possesses the power to control emotions. Under her guidance, the villain Psycho-Man, previously imprisoned on the Raft, has been released. Magnetrix then strategically beckons the New Champions – a team comprising Brawn (Amadeus Cho), Nova (Sam Alexander), Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), Viv Vision, and Spider-Man (Miles Morales) – into a rendezvous with the older Champions.

In a twist of manipulation, Magnetrix sets the Champions and the New Champions against each other, each vying for the title, through Psycho-Man’s tool that intensifies emotions like fear, uncertainty, and hostility. Meanwhile, an enlarged Ms. Marvel confronts Amaranth, Liberty clashes with synthetic Viv, Spider-Man ensnares the roller derby fiend, and the Hulk-like Brawn squares off against Cadet Marvel in a fierce battle.

In a heated brawl, Cadet Marvel and Nova engaged, a battle reminiscent of Nova’s 2014 encounter with the menacing villain Kluh, who had held his own against an evil Hulk. However, this fight ended abruptly when the enraged Kluh delivered such a powerful blow to Sam that he shattered his helmet.

In this clash between Teen Titans analogues – the Champions and the New Champions – they first need to break free from Psycho-Man’s emotional control and Ms. Marvel and Liberty successfully apprehend him. Cadet Marvel boasts that he could have defeated Nova, while the new Champions express being inspired by their older counterparts. The name “New Champions” is kept, and Monte and Magnetrix plan their next steps. Issue #3 of New Champions is available now from Marvel Comics; check out what’s coming up in the solicitations below.
