Marvel's Thunderbolts*: Comics Featuring Black Widow and Winter Soldier Strike in 2025

As a seasoned comics enthusiast and self-proclaimed Marvel expert, I’ve been following the Thunderbolts saga for quite some time now, and let me tell you, it’s been quite the rollercoaster ride!

In the latest Thunderbolts trailer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character Valentina Allegra de Fontaine says, “There are heroes and you’re villains,” but she adds, “But there are even more wicked ones.” Before Marvel Studios brings together the Anti-Avengers – an eclectic group of anti-heroes and reformed villains including Black Widow Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Bob Reynolds/Sentry (Lewis Pullman) – Marvel Comics is preparing the comics that serve as the movie’s inspiration.

2025 will see some exciting new trade paperbacks hitting the shelves, such as “My Journey with Yelena Belova: The Thunderbolts Saga,” a compilation of the earliest adventures of the Marvel Universe’s top assassin-spy, and “Thunderbolts: The Winter Soldiers,” a collection of the entire 12-issue run of Jim Zub and Jon Malin’s “Thunderbolts” Vol. 3 featuring Bucky Barnes as the main character. I can hardly wait to get my hands on these!

On March 4th, 2025, the movie “Thunderbolts: Winter Soldiers” is set to release. In this film, the Thunderbolts team, headed by Winter Soldier (Atlas, Moonstone, Mach-X, Fixer, Kobik, and Songbird), will engage in a non-lethal conflict against S.H.I.E.L.D., the Squadron Supreme, and the original Thunderbolts, which consist of Baron Zemo and the Masters of Evil, a group of supervillains masquerading as superheroes while the Avengers are absent.

Thunderbolts: The Yelena Belova Chronicles, available on March 11th

Additionally, coming out in May is the Marvel Epic Collection titled “Thunderbolts: Marked for Destruction“, a story that delves into Hawkeye’s Thunderbolts team during the writing tenure of Kurt Busiek and the artistic stint of Mark Bagley on the ’90s initial series.
