Marvel’s Thunderbolts Transformed into The New Avengers – What You Need to Know!

⚠️ Attention: This article unveils plot details from the Thunderbolts film. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s your chance to be part of the “B-Vengers”! After changing the original title of Thunderbolts with an asterisk last year, Marvel Studios has now revealed the new identity of the team: “*The New Avengers*”. The actual title and team name were kept secret until the closing scenes of Thunderbolts, but with the movie’s release, the spoiler period is over. Marvel wants to make sure everyone knows!

Initially, the cast of Thunderbolts, including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus gathered to work with director Jake Schreier on revealing a fresh poster. This poster replaced the Thunderbolts title with The New Avengers. Later, Marvel Studios disclosed a video where Sebastian Stan could be seen replacing a bus stop poster bearing the gold New Avengers logo, similar to the “A” logo used by Earth’s mightiest heroes since 2012’s The Avengers.

In a similar fashion as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus) abruptly renaming the “Thunderbolts” to the “New Avengers”, Marvel Studios has subtly rebranded their previous Thunderbolts team members to The New Avengers. This change is evident in posters displayed on movie ticketing sites and on the official Marvel website, where links previously labeled as Thunderbolts now direct to The New Avengers.

As a movie enthusiast, I’d put it this way: In the gallery below, you’ll find posters showcasing the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe additions. Among them are Yelena Belova, who’s stepping into the Black Widow role (played by Pugh), Bucky Barnes, aka Winter Soldier (Stan), Alexei Shostakov, known as Red Guardian (Harbour), John Walker, taking on the U.S. Agent role (Russell), and Ava Starr, who becomes Ghost (John-Kamen). Also joining the MCU is Bob Reynolds, portraying Sentry (Pullman).

Eric Pearson, who contributed to the story and shared screenplay duties with Joanna Calo, revealed that there was initially no plan for a Thunderbolts film. However, when an opportunity presented itself, he seized it to make a movie. Having been involved in Black Widow, he observed Florence Pugh’s rise and the excellent chemistry between her and David Harbour. This sparked conversations with producer Brian Chapek about potential projects. The Thunderbolts concept emerged, and Pearson proposed an idea to Kevin Feige, which wasn’t successful. However, he then developed a different pitch, which is essentially the version of this movie that was eventually produced.

Regarding the theory that the Thunderbolts were secretly the new version of the Avengers all along, Pearson commented, “We spent hours debating whether to use ‘New Avengers’ with an uppercase or lowercase ‘n’. Every idea was discussed, but what we were certain of is that we had a compelling story and a consistent theme.
