Marvel’s TVA First Look Previews a Crossover With What If and Loki Characters

As a seasoned Marvel enthusiast with decades of comics under my belt and countless hours spent traversing the multiverse, let me tell you, the announcement of “TVA” has sent shockwaves through my very core! This series promises to bring together fan-favorite characters from both the comics and the MCU, creating a symphony of time-traveling chaos that I can’t wait to immerse myself in.

In all instances, the Time Variance Authority (TVA) has been a constant presence. This organization, known for its role in maintaining the integrity of time, first appeared as early as 1986’s Thor comic #372, where they pursued a time-traveling villain to prevent World War VII from occurring in the Marvel Universe. Despite discussions about temporal distortions, local time disruptions, and monitoring of non-existent alternate realities where time has no significance, the TVA made appearances in various comic series like Fantastic Four, What If…?, and Despicable Deadpool long before capturing a time-traveling Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Together with Ghost-Spider, formerly known as Gwen Stacy from Earth-65 who now resides on Earth-616, and an irked version of Gambit similar to Channing Tatum’s Void-discarded character in Deadpool & Wolverine, the TVA has assigned a group of heroes hailing from erased realities with the mission to safeguard the multiverse.

This five-part comic series, penned by Kathryn Blair (known for her work on ‘Loki’ and ‘Daredevil: Born Again’) and illustrated by Pere Pérez (acclaimed for his work on ‘Edge of Spider-Verse’ and ‘Venom War: Carnage’), promises to merge the Marvel Comics portrayal of the TVA with its MCU equivalent. As described by ‘Loki’ production designer Kasra Farahani, this fusion will showcase a unique blend of “Eastern European, Soviet-influenced Modernism” and an intriguing amalgamation of massive Brutalist architecture and American mid-century Modern quirkiness.

For a long time, the Time Variance Authority has been safeguarding the timeline, preventing any harmful alterations that might lead to the demise of everything. However, as they broaden their acceptance of variations, they’ve recently brought on board some fresh recruits from timelines that no longer exist: Captain Peggy Carter, a super-soldier in her realm; Gambit, feeling dejected and without purpose following the loss of his lover; and surprisingly, Spider-Gwen!
