Marvel’s TVA: Mobius Returns, But Might Be Dead?

Mobius is back at work at the revamped TVA, and there’s a mysterious green-cloaked assassin targeting their team.

The five-part comic series penned by Loki scribe and story executive Katharyn Blair, alongside artist Pere Perez, unveils alterations that have transpired since our previous encounter with the Time Variance Authority (TVA), as depicted in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Following Loki’s (Tom Hiddleston) actions of dismantling the Temporal Loom, ending the TVA’s elimination of alternate timelines under the control of He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) and a reprogrammed Miss Minutes (Tara Strong) have been gathering strays from various timelines to their cause. Loki’s selfless act sparked the concept in B-15 and Mobius to bring more outcasts into the esteemed halls of the TVA, which now features a portrait of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool framed on its walls.

The group consists of Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider, who’s been laying low at the TVA following her recruitment by O.B. (Ke Huy Quan); Jimmy Hudson/Poison, Wolverine’s son from the old Ultimate Universe; Peggy Carter/Captain Carter; and Remy LeBeau, also known as Gambit, the ex-X-Man who’s been nursing sorrow in a TVA cell ever since his beloved mutant partner Rogue passed away.

The TVA has found that individuals from varying points in time are catching brief glimpses of the TVA and a rising sense of chaos leading them to confront their deepest terrors, which could be referred to as a “Madness of the Multiverse.” O.B. proposes this might be a consequence of the universe-threatening disruptions stemming from tangled timelines, but Loki guaranteed that every timeline would thrive (eternally and consistently) upon his disappearance.

Jimmy ponders if this TVA phenomenon might be a violation of reality, suggesting an intrusion from another dimension. Initially, the TVA had safeguards to prevent such invasions when they monitored the Sacred Timeline, but with the introduction of infinite timelines, there have been lapses in their protective measures.

The Time Variance Authority (TVA) has been dispatched to probe an epidemic of a terrifying phenomenon called the Madness on Earth-93. This mysterious illness causes every team member to encounter their deepest fears and inner torments, which materialize as real hallucinations. After receiving medical attention from Doc Clock, the TVA concludes that the Madness isn’t a disease or an invasion, but rather demonic in nature. They then journey to Bagalia, also known as Hell Town on Earth-616, to seek counsel from Daimon Hellstrom, who is infamously known as the Son of Satan: Mephisto.

In a scenario where chaos is leaping across various timeframes simultaneously, Carter queries about Dox, the individual who manipulated several timelines concurrently (in Loki season 2). Mobius mentions that this pace is unparalleled, leading O.B. to inquire from B-15 if “the man with the volatile, inferior Time Ripper” is still detained. Excluding Paradox, the antagonist from Deadpool & Wolverine, who aimed to expedite the annihilation of Wade Wilson’s universe, B-15 verifies that he remains in custody.

In the debate about who’s causing the Madness, Mobius catches a fleeting sight of a green cloak. Simultaneously, Gwen and Gambit discover they are being followed by Sylvie Laufeydottir, a Loki variant, while investigating Hellstrom Manor. She has also been studying the Madness and warns that it’s even more severe than initially believed.

1. At the TVA, Mobius continues to trail a cloaked individual who he suspects is Loki. In the underworld, a book titled “An Exhaustive Guide to Celestial Bureaucracies” – left behind by He Who Remains during his rule over the TVA – unexpectedly discloses secret wings tucked away within the TVA’s Research and Development sector.

2. At the TVA, Mobius tracks a cloaked individual believed to be Loki. In Hell, the book “An Exhaustive Guide to Celestial Bureaucracies” – a legacy from He Who Remains’ time as ruler of the TVA – sheds light on concealed wings located beneath the TVA’s Research & Development department.

3. Back at the TVA, Mobius chases after someone he thinks is Loki, cloaked and all. In the depths of Hell, a book titled “An Exhaustive Guide to Celestial Bureaucracies” – a relic from He Who Remains’ era as ruler of the TVA – uncovers hidden wings tucked away in the TVA’s Research & Development department.

4. At the TVA, Mobius pursues a cloaked individual he suspects is Loki. In the bowels of Hell, a book called “An Exhaustive Guide to Celestial Bureaucracies” – a keepsake from He Who Remains’ reign as ruler of the TVA – exposes concealed wings nestled within the TVA’s Research & Development division.

5. At the TVA, Mobius is on the tail of a cloaked individual he presumes is Loki. In the lower regions of Hell, a book entitled “An Exhaustive Guide to Celestial Bureaucracies” – a reminder from He Who Remains’ time as ruler of the TVA – reveals secret wings hidden in the TVA’s Research & Development branch.

While treading through the TVA alongside “Loki,” Mobius reminisces about his recent conversation with Miss Minutes: “Not long ago, I departed from the TVA. I wanted to witness what we were safeguarding, so I explored the timelines. And I saw. It was breathtaking. Yet, this spot is captivating too. I wish to defend it. He did. Though I’m unsure of his whereabouts or actions, I know it matters that I’m here. That I continue to battle for its preservation.

Before Mobius manages to discover the culprit’s true identity, he is fatally stabbed by an unseen assailant’s knife and falls to the ground, drenched in blood. The conclusion leaves Mobius’ survival uncertain, as the storyline ends on a suspenseful note. However, previews for upcoming issues (located below) might disclose the startling identity of the mastermind behind “Madness”.

In the movie “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” released in 2022, the Scarlet Witch is shown to have perished while eradicating every last copy of the Darkhold throughout the multiverse.
