Tensions are escalating within Marvel’s Ultimates team, as Iron Lad (Tony Stark) instigated a conflict with The Maker, an evil incarnation of Reed Richards who created a Universe without superheroes. The Ultimates have been recruiting allies to counterattack, leading them to attack K’un-Lun, the Immortal City ruled by Bruce Banner’s Hulk. Unfortunately, the Ultimates were ambushed, and Iron Lad was severely wounded. Tony Stark organized the gathering, with half of the team physically present while the rest attended remotely due to the lesson they learned from their last encounter when the entire network of Ultimates assembled in one location.


Tony displays a chilling simulation of the Ultimates’ confrontation with Hulk and his Immortal Weapons, ending tragically for the entire team in a grisly manner. The team members have been plagued by disturbing dreams about this fateful day, with Hank Pym humorously mentioning he’s been considering a visit to a sleep specialist. However, Tony insists that this isn’t just a bad dream. He threatens Doom to reveal the truth to the Ultimates, or else he will do it himself. This implies that Doctor Doom has concealed a significant secret about what transpired on that day from the Ultimates. It is revealed that Doom was the one who rescued the team by teleporting them out of danger at the last moment, but there may be more that Doom has kept hidden.

It seems that whatever this secret entails, it’s edging towards an “Avengers: Disassembled”-like situation. Let’s dub it “Ultimates: Disassembled.” Tension between Iron Lad and Doom has been escalating over several issues, and it’s now at its peak. As each month passes, we get one step closer to the Maker’s return. The Ultimates must put aside their disagreements if they are to stand a chance against the Maker and his malevolent council.

As a result of the Ultimates losing to Hulk, Tony Stark acquired an arc reactor implanted in his chest, mirroring Iron Man’s backstory in the primary Marvel Universe. However, it seems that Doom managed to rescue Iron Lad, but Tony doesn’t appear particularly grateful. Upcoming episodes hint at the creation of Ultimates 3.0, suggesting that this gathering could mark the disbandment of the team, and potentially introduce characters such as Ultimate Scarlet Witch and Ultimate Quicksilver.
