Marvel’s Venom Gets a Golden Upgrade and New Powers (But Who Will Be the New Host?)

As a longtime Venom fan with years of comic book battles under my belt, I must say that the conclusion of Venom War has left me utterly spellbound! The transformation of Venom into a golden warrior was a breathtaking sight to behold, and the revelations about Old Man Dylan’s dark past only add to the intrigue.

In conclusion, Marvel’s Venom War has reached its grand finale, leaving a dramatic impact on the Lethal Protector. Not just a fresh coat of paint, Venom now boasts enhanced abilities alongside a revamped appearance. The question lingers, who will be the next to harbor the extraterrestrial symbiote? Though the last issue of Venom War brings an end to this event series, it paves the way for a new Venom comic book series titled All-New Venom. This upcoming series introduces a secret host within the symbiote, with clues from the final battle of Venom War serving as a stepping stone. As a precaution: this article includes spoilers for Venom War #5. Proceed with caution!

In issue #5 of “Venom War,” the talented team of Al Ewing, Iban Coello, Frank D’Armata, and Ariana Maher take us on an exciting adventure. The danger posed by Meridius – an alternate timeline’s Eddie Brock who has fallen – is neutralized with the help of Old Man Dylan Brock and his unique weapon, “Eganrac.” Eganrac, which stands for Carnage spelled backwards, acts as the Anti-Carnage, much like Anti-Venom. This powerful tool removes the red from a symbiote, enabling Dylan/Venom to transform the All-Blood, the Necrospear, into a golden weapon and even change Venom’s black suit into gold altogether.

Venom gets a new look for the conclusion of Venom War

In an attempt to eliminate Dylan/Venom, Meridius hurled the deadly Necrospear towards him. But instead, Old Man Dylan defended himself by firing a golden bullet infused with Anti-Carnage at his younger self, transforming Venom into a warrior adorned in gold. As Meridius focused on pinning down Eddie Brock, Dylan/Venom empowered the Necrospear with Anti-Carnage and plunged it through Meridius from behind.

After Meridius’ demise, the zombiotes he controlled began to perish alongside him. One would think this marks the end of events, but given the complex nature of Venom and symbiotes, it’s not that straightforward. It appears that Old Man Dylan deceived himself about Eddie being responsible for the dreadful future he hails from. The reality is that once Dylan vanquishes Meridius tonight, it sets him on a dark course leading to his dismal future. Old Man Dylan manipulated time travel and struck bargains with malevolent entities from past, present, and future to prevent himself. His hidden trump card is Anti-Carnage.

Who is Marvel’s new Venom host?

The recently enhanced Venom finds his new golden form turning against him. The combination of Carnage and Anti-Carnage acts much like matter and antimatter collision, causing self-destruction. Instead of transforming into the smooth, glossy black that characterizes a healthy symbiote, it now resembles the black of a festering wound. With Dylan, Flash Thompson/Anti-Venom, and Toxin in close proximity, the Venom symbiote selflessly gives up its life to prevent others from suffering the same fate.

In a surprising twist, the Venom symbiote abandons the wrestling ring and meets its apparent demise among the bustling streets of New York City. Along the way, it manages to dodge some K-chemical bullets fired by heavily armed troops. Although it seems Venom is perishing, we’re given a hint that this isn’t the end – as the story continues in All-New Venom, the symbiote will reappear with a new host yet to be revealed. It’s clear that neither Eddie nor Dylan Brock will be the mystery host, especially since Eddie is forming a bond with Carnage for the first time in Eddie Brock: Carnage.

Marvel has revealed potential hosts for the new Venom series: Rick Jones, Madame Masque, Robbie Robertson, and Luke Cage. If their word is to be trusted, the identity of the host will be unveiled when All-New Venom hits shelves in December.
