As a long-time Marvel fan and someone who has eagerly awaited each new installment of the MCU, I have to say that the ending of “Marvel’s What If…?” feels like a bittersweet goodbye. Having watched every episode with anticipation, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia for the imaginative stories and alternate realities that this series has brought to life.
Having had the privilege of talking with director Bryan Andrews about the third season, it became clear that there is still so much potential for this show. The way he spoke about the possibility of more adventures in the future gave me hope that “What If…?” might not be gone forever, just taking a well-deserved break.
In my opinion, the idea behind “What If…?” is too good to abandon completely. And as a final note, I can’t help but wonder: if there really is an invisible asterisk on the end of this series, could it be that in another universe “What If…?” never ended at all? Just a thought… until then, I’ll just have to rewatch the episodes again and again!

As a long-time fan of Marvel Comics and their animated series, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with Bryan Andrews, director of “What If…?” about the latest season. When posed a question regarding the series finale, Andrews left me feeling optimistic about potential future installments. Given my extensive background in comic book storytelling and my love for this particular franchise, I can’t help but feel excited at the prospect of more “What If…?” episodes down the line.
Andrews commented, “I believe determining when to conclude this is beyond my level of authority. There are many plans in motion, and plenty more in the works. So, yes, there may be significant events happening within the Marvel Cinematic Universe that make this a suitable time [to end it].
Andrew further discussed the possibility that “What If…?” might persist past this supposed last season. He hinted that although no definite plans are in place at the moment, he views this as a temporary goodbye for the series.
As a longtime fan of this particular show, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and trepidation as I listen to the director’s words. Based on my years of following the series, I have come to trust that the creators have a clear vision for the story they want to tell. The hints of a pause in the narrative, followed by the promise of an ending for a specific plotline, suggests to me that this may be a strategic move to keep us guessing and engaged. It’s not uncommon for shows like this to take unexpected turns, and I have learned over the years to trust the creative team’s decisions, even when they don’t immediately make sense. However, I do hope that if this is truly just a pause in the narrative, it won’t be too long before we are reunited with our favorite characters once again. Only time will tell, but for now, I remain cautiously optimistic.
