Following the announcement of Insomniac Games CEO Ted Price’s retirement, the company spoke with Variety about their upcoming title, Wolverine. They expressed a desire to discuss the game but indicated that fans will need to be patient and wait until it’s appropriate to disclose details.
Co-studio head at Insomniac, Chad Dezern, shared with Variety that they’ve revealed ‘Wolverine’, and there’s a lot more to discuss, but for now, they need to maintain a calm demeanor like Logan. Though their eagerness is building, they must keep it under wraps for the time being, which means that’s all we can share about our upcoming projects at this moment.
The recent comment aligns with what the studio previously mentioned regarding their upcoming Wolverine game. Back in May 2024, during a query about Wolverine updates on social media X, the studio replied, “We’ll announce news when it’s appropriate, and right now isn’t that time.
Regarding the Wolverine video game, there’s been an unusual silence from Insomniac since they first announced it in 2021. At this point, we only have a few details about the project. We know that it will share the same universe as the Marvel’s Spider-Man games (also developed by Insomniac), and that it will be an independent game with its own unique narrative.
Regardless of any specific information shared, the studio continues to develop Wolverine, as they confirmed back in June 2024 when fans were hoping for a possible PS4/PS5 release of their open-world parkour-based shooter, Sunset Overdrive.
“We’re busy with Marvel’s Wolverine!” said Insomniac in response.
Despite the studio not publicly discussing the game, a ransomware attack occurred in 2023, compromising approximately 1.3 million internal files from the studio, encompassing employee personal details and information related to Wolverine. The leaked data totaled roughly 1.67 terabytes.
Based on the leaked information, it appears Insomniac was aiming for a 2026 release of ‘Wolverine’, followed by a game centered around the X-Men that might be connected to the ‘Wolverine’ storyline. The data leak also suggested other upcoming projects such as a scaled-down ‘Ratchet and Clank’ title scheduled for 2029, along with a standalone ‘Marvel’s Venom’ game.
It’s been suggested through various leaks that the rumored X-Men game could potentially drop in 2030, followed by another installment in 2033. Hints also point towards a possible total of four games in the series.
Earlier today, it was announced that Insomniac Games’ long-time CEO, Ted Price, is stepping down from his position. Taking over as leaders are Ryan Schneider, Jen Huang, and Chad Dezern. Price had been with the company for over 30 years.
