Most collaborations between LEGO and Nintendo tend to cater to fans of all ages. However, there have been exceptions in the form of larger, pricier sets meant for mature collectors. It seems another set along those lines is on the horizon this year. A recent rumor suggests a “massive” Mario Kart-themed set will hit stores in July, retailing at $170. This set falls under the LEGO Icons line, typically featuring models based on real-world vehicles. As per Brick Fanatics, this move could be an attempt to align with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart game.
Currently, there’s only talk about the existence of this set, so take it as a rumor until an official unveiling. The timing seems fitting considering the new Mario Kart game in production, especially since the main Super Mario LEGO line introduced Mario Kart builds at the beginning of 2025. Given the success of the Mario Kart series, this set appears to be a logical choice. However, whether the Kart will be compatible with any existing sets is still unknown.
2024 saw LEGO unveil two substantial Nintendo-themed sets for enthusiastic collectors, with the largest one inspired by the Great Deku Tree from The Legend of Zelda series and priced at $299. The second set paid tribute to the Super Mario World universe, showcasing a pixelated representation of Mario and Yoshi. Interestingly, this set wasn’t part of the broader LEGO Super Mario collection, but it did integrate with the LEGO Mario, Luigi, and Peach figures, eliciting game-related sound effects when interacted with. If the LEGO Mario Kart rumors prove true, we might witness a similar approach in the future.
Though Nintendo and LEGO haven’t officially acknowledged the Mario Kart Lego set, there’s another 2025 Lego collection in the pipeline for mature enthusiasts. Last month, both companies revealed that a Lego set modeled after the classic Game Boy will hit stores in October 2025. So far, only a preview trailer has been unveiled, fueling anticipation among fans as they wonder what the final product will resemble and which games it might encompass.
On April 2nd, there’s going to be a Nintendo Direct presentation showcasing numerous new details about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This event might also provide us with a more detailed look at the upcoming Mario Kart game, potentially unveiling the official announcement of the LEGO Mario Kart set, if it’s indeed releasing in July. It’s plausible that they would reveal the set on April 2nd because a July release would make for a logical timeline. However, an earlier announcement is also possible, especially considering March 10th, which is known as Mario Day, has historically been associated with various announcements from Nintendo and its partners. A large LEGO Mario Kart set could align well with past trends!
