Teela’s journey in “Riverdale” played by Camila Mendes has come to a close. The actress recently announced that she finished filming for the live-action “Masters of the Universe” movie, where she plays Teela opposite Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man. She shared this news on Instagram with a sneak peek from the set of the Eternian warrior goddess.
Mendes shared, “My time on MOTU has come to an end. Playing Teela was one of the most exhilarating and demanding roles I’ve ever had. The nerve-wracking week between my final audition and getting the part was truly agonizing. However, here I am, nearly a year later, transformed into a gym enthusiast and redhead, concluding an amazing 7 months of living as a Londoner, eating like an athlete, and fighting as a warrior woman!” She also included photos of herself in costume.
Mendes displayed her strong, warrior-like figure in the images by flexing her biceps next to a photo of the red-haired Captain of the Palace Guard from the ’80s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon series. “Gratitude doesn’t even begin to cover it,” she added. “I can’t reveal much yet, so I’ll be eagerly awaiting the day when we can unveil more details. For now, this will have to suffice.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the Amazon MGM Studios’ reimagining of the Mattel toy-based Filmation animated series casts me, Idris Elba from “The Suicide Squad,” in the role of Teela’s foster father and mentor, Duncan/Man-At-Arms. The brilliant Alison Brie from “Community” brings the sinister Evil-Lyn to life, while Morena Baccarin from “Deadpool” embodies Teela Na, the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull and Teela’s mother. Lastly, Jared Leto, who graced our screens in “Tron: Ares,” steps into the wicked shoes of Skeletor. It’s a dream team lineup that promises an exciting ride!
The cast features Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson from ‘Game of Thrones’ portraying the horn-headed Goat Man, Kojo Attah known for ‘The Beekeeper’ as Tri-Klops with three eyes, Jon Xue Zhang recognized as Kraven the Hunter in another project, taking on the role of Ram-Man due to his helmeted human battering ram likeness, Sam C. Wilson from ‘House of the Dragon’ assuming the weapons wizard Trap Jaw, Johannes Haukur Jóhannesson from ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ as Fisto with metal battle-fisted abilities, Sasheer Zamata famous for ‘Agatha All Along’ as Suzie, Adam’s best friend. Lastly, Charlotte Riley, known for ‘Peaky Blinders’, and James Purefoy from DC’s Pennyworth are cast as Adam’s parents, Queen Marlena and King Randor respectively.
This movie is directed by Travis Knight, who oversaw Laika’s animated film “Kubo and the Two Strings” and the live-action spinoff of “Transformers,” titled “Bumblebee.” The screenplay was written by Chris Butler, who previously worked on “ParaNorman” and “Kubo,” both produced by Knight. Todd Black, known for “Equalizer 3,” is producing alongside Jason Blumenthal from “Servant” and Steve Tisch of “Madden.” For their production company Escape Artists, they are joined by Robbie Brenner from Mattel Films, who is responsible for “Barbie.
Amazon MGM Studios has slated Masters of the Universe to open only in theaters on June 5, 2026.
