Matt Cardona Seeking “Major TV Company” For His Career’s Next Chapter

As a fan who has witnessed Matt Cardona’s incredible journey, I must say that his resilience and adaptability are truly inspiring. From being a stalwart in WWE to conquering the independent circuit, he has proven time and again that he is a force to be reckoned with. His transformation into the “Indie God” and then the “Major TV Company God” is a testament to his relentless pursuit of success and his unwavering belief in himself.

Matt Cardona, previously known as Zack Ryder, gained prominence in the independent wrestling world. After being released by WWE in April 2020 due to cost-cutting measures during the global pandemic, he briefly appeared with All Elite Wrestling but did not secure a long-term contract. Instead, Cardona opted to wait for live audiences and showcased his skills across various independent circuits, notably gaining recognition in Game Changer Wrestling. Embracing the “Death Match King” persona, Cardona leveraged his past as a WWE star, which contrasts the typical image of rugged indie wrestlers. This unique character propelled him to fame, culminating in his ranking at No.13 on Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Top 500 Wrestlers list in 2022.

Matt Cardona Seeks “Major TV Company”

The Indie God is ready to put the indies in his rear view.

In an interview with Barstool Sports, Matt Cardona expressed his intention to join forces with a significant television network to showcase his skills further.

Cardona stated that now is the moment to approach a significant television corporation, saying, “We could call it the ‘TV Corporation Supreme’ instead, but let’s work on finding an alternative that sounds just as appealing as ‘Indie God’.”

For the past four years, Cardona has moved around various companies rather than staying with just one. While he’s made appearances on AEW and TNA, he hasn’t committed fully to a single television network yet.

Four years ago, when I left WWE, my main aim wasn’t about figuring out ways to return there. Instead, I decided it was crucial to let go of thoughts about WWE and AEW, and concentrate on myself – rebuilding and reinventing myself. I believe I’ve managed to accomplish that. Now that I’m recovering from this injury, I’ve exhausted all opportunities on the independent circuit. I’ve won every title available; some titles in my closet even belong to promotions I can’t recall. In essence, I’ve been there, done that.

In March, Cardona’s most significant televised bout took place. This was when he accepted then-AEW TNT Champion Adam Copeland’s open challenge on AEW Collision, fulfilling a lifelong dream by facing his former mentor in a match. Since then, Cardona has not appeared on AEW TV. A few weeks later, Cardona suffered a torn pectoral muscle and spent the following four months recovering. He made his comeback to the ring earlier this month.
