Matthew Gaudreau's Wife Shares Heartbreaking Message After His Death

As an ardent follower of the hockey world and the heartwarming stories that often unfold within it, I find myself deeply moved by the tragic tale of Madeline Gaudreau and her family. The loss of Matthew Gaudreau, a loving husband, and a father-to-be, has left an indelible void in their lives. Yet, amidst the darkness of grief, there’s a beacon of resilience that shines through – Madeline’s unwavering spirit and her determination to honor Matthew’s memory by carrying on for their unborn child.

Madeline Gaudreau is pressing on, driven by the memory of her departed spouse, Matthew Gaudreau, and their unborn child.

The widow of the deceased Matthew, who tragically passed away following a drunken driver’s hit-and-run accident while cycling with his brother and NHL player, Johnny Gaudreau, posted a poignant message about her grief, as she copes with this sudden loss.

“I’m at a loss for words, but I deeply miss you,” Madeline wrote alongside an Instagram post showcasing a heartwarming photo of the couple in a loving hug on August 31. “My life feels incomplete without you. The pain I feel is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. You have been my greatest blessing, choosing me to be your wife and loving me. You are the very best part of me. Though I believe you’re watching over us from above, feeling just as much sorrow as I am here on earth, I will keep going for us and our son. I love you more than words can express, Matthew.”

Before Matty passed away, they had announced in June that they were going to have their first baby together. They used a rainbow emoticon and wrote, “Baby Gaudreau due in December.”

Johnny, a player on the Columbus Blue Jackets based in Ohio, had already become a father of two when his second child, son named Johnny Edward Gaudreau, was born to him and his wife, Meredith Gaudreau, in February. He is also the dad of a 23-month-old daughter named Noa Harper.

On the night of August 29th around 8 p.m., the Gaudreau brothers were bicycling on a secluded road in New Jersey when Sean M. Higgins, aged 43, crashed into them from behind as he was trying to overtake another northbound SUV. This information was shared by New Jersey Sergeant Jeffrey Lebron with TopMob News.

According to the police, it’s believed that Sean was intoxicated at the time of the accident. He has been indicted for two counts of vehicular manslaughter.

TopMob News has reached out to Higgins’ attorney for comment but has not yet heard back.

Born in New Jersey, the Gaudreau brothers spent their lives playing hockey for various teams. They also had the opportunity to be teammates while attending Boston College.

In another heartfelt tribute, Madeline emphasized the strong connection between Matty and John in a September 1 Instagram post. She penned, “It was always about Matty & John. I struggle to express the depth of their bond, and at this moment, I lack the courage. They were each other’s biggest supporters.”

She additionally penned a note to her sister-in-law Meredith, stating, “To Meredith – our hearts will be intertwined by an unbreakable sorrow and connection… yet, the boys selected remarkable women as their wives and mothers of their children. We’ll support one another through every phase of life… just as the boys would do for each other. They gave us children… through them, we’ll always keep a piece of them with us on this earth.”
