Matthew Goode has verified that he won’t appear in the upcoming third Downton Abbey movie, The Grand Finale. He mentioned that it might be beneficial for his character, Henry Talbot, not to show up at all.
Next week, in an interview with TopMob magazine, the actor discusses his absence from the second film and his lack of billing for the third film in the upcoming Netflix release of Department Q. The interview will be published in the next issue.
He shared that he couldn’t participate in the second event as he was engaged with The Offer. For the third, he was occupied with filming. However, he also injured his knee and required surgery.
It would have taken me several weeks to recover, making it an impossible task. To put it bluntly, he was starting to become rather dull and uninspiring. Perhaps it’s for the best then.
In the world of cinema, I was part of the grand cast that graced the screens during seasons 5 and 6 of the beloved Downton Abbey television series. Then came 2019, where I reprised my role for the big screen in the first movie adaptation.
During his tenure in the series, he wedded Mary (Michelle Dockery), and they enjoyed a fairy tale ending; however, since Goode is absent from the latest movie, we must imagine their blissful conclusion for ourselves.

Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck, played by Goode, will take the lead in the Netflix-streamed Scottish crime series Department Q.
The summary for the upcoming drama, derived from Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen’s 10 novels, describes Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Carl Morck as an exceptionally intelligent police officer, yet a challenging coworker.
In Edinburgh, his biting wit hasn’t earned him many allies among the police force. Following an incident where a young police constable was killed and his partner left paralyzed, he finds himself relegated to the basement and serving as the lone member of Department Q – a recently established team tasked with solving cold cases.
The department appears to be merely a public relations trick, intended to divert attention from the shortcomings and impending collapse of a police force that is understaffed and struggling. Ironically, however, Carl inadvertently gathers a group of misfits, all eager to establish their worth.
As the cold case of a well-known public official who vanished multiple years ago gains renewed interest, Carl once again finds himself in his element – shaking things up and persistently pushing forward despite being told “no”.
Speaking about Downton Abbey, it was announced a couple of months back that its third movie will hit theaters in September, with the title “The Grand Finale.” Written by Julian Fellowes once more, many of the beloved characters return to the screen for this film, which is being marketed as the concluding installment in the Downton Abbey series.
Accompanying Dockery in the upcoming movie are Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Downes (Dockery), Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Joanne Froggatt, Alan Leech, Penelope Wilton and Lesley Nicol.
Among those reappearing in the movie are Michael Fox, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Kevin Doyle, Harry Hadden-Paton, Sophie McShera, Douglas Reith, and Dominic West. Joining them for this film are Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale, and Arty Froushan.
