If you’re a fan of the secret agent universe, especially James Bond, and you can’t wait to learn more about his upcoming adventures, maybe the unveiling of the new “Legacy of Spies” television show will catch your interest.
The recently released TV show is adapted from a novel by John le Carré with the same title, and it has just secured its main actor, Matthew Macfadyen.
In the latest drama, it’s officially announced that the Succession actor will portray George Smiley, a role previously played by actors such as Gary Oldman, Alec Guinness, and Rupert Davies across various film adaptations.
The career intelligence officer is associated with ‘The Circus’, a British foreign intelligence agency, and plays a crucial role in various novels. Le Carré developed Smiley as a counterpoint to the debonair James Bond, whom he believed did not accurately portray the world of espionage as he originally envisioned it.
2017’s novel centers around character Alec Leamas, an employee of ‘The Circus’, driven by the demise of a coworker, who decides to embark on one last assignment to seek vengeance for the murder and unmask the culprit.

At present, we don’t have any updates regarding how faithfully the upcoming series will follow the original book. However, what we do know is that it is being created by The Ink Factory, who hold the rights to John le Carré’s literary works.
1. Stephen Cornwell, co-founder at Ink Factory, and Clarissa Ingram are the scriptwriters for several episodes in the series, with Graham Yost, the creator of Silo, overseeing as executive producer.

Currently, no additional cast members have been officially announced for the show, but securing Macfadyen as one of the key characters is undoubtedly going to infuse a significant level of anticipation into the storyline.
Without a doubt, Macfadyen isn’t new to the world of acting; he’s had leading roles in productions like Pride & Prejudice, Succession, and Spooks, among others. More recently, you might recognize him from ITV’s Stonehouse and Deadpool & Wolverine.
Despite his well-known portrayal of Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, David Tennant more recently confessed that he found the process of being a romantic lead less than pleasing during filming.
He shared with CBS Mornings last year, “To be honest, I didn’t get as much pleasure from it as I would have liked. I feel guilty saying this, but there were instances where I had a good time. However, I found myself longing to appreciate it more and not be so concerned.
He added: “I felt a bit miscast, like, ‘I’m not dishy enough.’ But it worked out.
These days, the nicest compliment I receive is when people ask if I’m Mr. Darcy. Given it’s been over two decades since then, I find myself thinking, ‘I must not be aging too quickly.’
