Matthew Stafford’s Wife Kelly Shares Advice for Other Football Wives

As I delve into the lives of these remarkable individuals, I can’t help but marvel at their journeys and the unique ways they navigate through life. Take Tua Tagovailoa, for instance, who after an injury-marred season, considered retiring to be with his loved ones. A testament to his priorities, indeed!

As a self-proclaimed “veteran football companion,” Kelly Stafford has some tips to share with her fellow regulars on the sidelines. Are you prepared, Taylor Swift, Brittany Mahomes? Here it comes!

It’s important to clarify that the co-host of “The Morning After” podcast is certain that neither the 14-time Grammy winner, who is dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, nor the Kansas City Current co-owner, who is expecting her third child with husband Patrick Mahomes, requires advice from her.

In her exclusive interview with TopMob News, she expressed that they appear to have a clear understanding of their life direction and current situation. However, she doesn’t feel qualified to provide advice due to her numerous past mistakes, but she is open to sharing some honest insights instead.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share a valuable piece of advice that I wish someone had told me earlier: ‘Guard your individuality.’ Coming into this new phase, it’s essential to hold onto who you are, just as Kelly connected with Matthew Stafford during their pickup basketball games at the University of Georgia in the mid-aughts.

Nearly two decades and four kids—daughters Sawyer and Chandler, both 7, Hunter, 6, and Tyler, 4—later, “I would say, ‘Don’t try to become the person that everybody else wants you to become,'” the 35-year-old continued. “Because that’s what I did and I lost who I was. And that goes with personality, looks, all of it.”

In a world filled with outside influences, a Georgia native remarked, “There will be countless individuals giving their opinions on how you should appear and what you should and shouldn’t say. If you begin to heed their advice, you risk losing the very values and qualities that define you, and erase the unique traits that initially captured your spouse’s heart.”

Overall, she summed up, do your best to stick to your game plan.

She acknowledged that it’s not possible to eliminate all distractions entirely, but suggested that one should take a moment to hear their own thoughts before listening to anyone else.

After taking that advice, Kelly started “The Morning After” alongside her long-time friend, Hank Winchester (a TV reporter from Detroit), in 2021. This project was a means for them to keep connected with their loved ones following Matthew’s decision to trade his Detroit Lions uniform for a spot on the Los Angeles Rams team.

A common misunderstanding about this podcast is that it solely focuses on football, but in reality, it encompasses much more. While we do discuss football occasionally, especially during the season since it’s a significant part of my life, the podcast is primarily about fostering a supportive community where people uplift each other.

In her podcast, Kelly shared that she feels quite exposed, discussing topics like parenting and friendships, because she feels secure and cherishes the sense of belonging within this particular community.

Quite frequently, she mentioned, individuals often face the burden of feeling they must handle everything effortlessly without a hint of complaint, since they are fortunate enough to have children. After all, there are those who do not share this blessing. However, just because others may not experience this challenge, it doesn’t make the journey any easier, and I should be allowed to express my feelings while receiving encouragement so you don’t feel isolated.

For folks who prefer to attend in person, she will be performing six live shows across different locations starting from September 7, with the tour kicking off in the Detroit region.

Referred to as the Cleat Chaser Tour, this title pays tribute to Kelly’s long-standing nickname from her days as a University of Georgia cheerleader and also signifies that we’ll be following Matt’s football cleats across the nation. Notably, each event is scheduled the day before Matt’s Rams face their opponents.

Kelly explained that the event was centered around everyday life and being a parent. However, it may also include a touch of football. Primarily, though, it’s all about having a great time, enjoying some drinks with friends, and sharing plenty of laughter together.

And, yes, Matthew will be cheering her on every step of the way.

In response to the 36-year-old’s enthusiasm, I exclaimed, “Absolutely, proceed with it! It’s such a delight,” expressing my sentiment. I assure you, he confidently believes I’ll excel at the task. To be honest, if roles were reversed, I might harbor some concerns due to incidents of misinterpretation or similar issues. However, he trusts that my intentions towards him and his team would always be pure, with no intention to harm them intentionally.

Regarding any negativity she might encounter, Matthew has mapped out effective strategies for brushing it aside.

Kelly admitted that she’s sensitive to criticism, acknowledging, “I’m only human, and their words can sting.” She went on to explain, “I’m not one to act like I don’t care about what others say, because I do. In truth, I’m quite a people-pleaser, so taking criticism was particularly tough for me.”

However, following 15 seasons of dismissing criticisms on Mondays, as Kelly pointed out, she has a husband who remains unfazed by most things. This composure of his, in fact, is beneficial, as it allows him to take things in stride, almost nonchalantly saying, “Oh, well, never mind.”

Although she might not always avoid criticism, she has a reliable teammate who can boost her confidence when needed.

In her words, “Matthew acts as a tranquil influence in my life,” stated Kelly. “His presence helps alleviate the stress that I often feel, and he is an extraordinary individual in numerous aspects.”

Mostly, she joked, “He’s just annoyingly a really good dude, which is sometimes obnoxious.”

Typically, she appreciates having such a considerate companion to face life together. Naturally, they aren’t the sole NFL pair setting an example as couple and relationship role models. Here are some other duos who caught our attention and garnered our votes for MVP: Most Valuable Pairs.

Well, let me tell you, there’s nothing quite like hoisting that Super Bowl trophy in triumph! But if I may share a personal dream, it surpasses even that. Winning two Super Bowls? Now that’s the ultimate thrill! And the cherry on top? A well-deserved vacation to Disneyland with the one I adore, creating memories that’ll last a lifetime.

Brittany Mahomes explained to CBS News in July that she wasn’t anticipating the sudden influx of praise and excitement from falling for QB1 at her high school in Whitehouse, Texas. At such a young age, she confessed, their relationship took off like a rocket, and they found themselves unexpectedly immersed in the flames almost immediately.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, let me share a heartwarming tale – I proposed to my beloved at Arrowhead Stadium on the momentous day of September 1, 2020. That was the very same day when the Chiefs were honored with their Super Bowl LIV rings. Fast forward to March 12, 2022, we officially sealed our union and became husband and wife. It’s a feeling I wouldn’t trade for anything!

The athlete shared with CBS that fatherhood to Sterling Skye, born on February 20, 2021, and Patrick “Bronze” Lavone Mahomes III, born on November 28, 2022, has provided him a deeper sense of being engaged and appreciating the sport of football.

He shared that when his children are grown, he wants them to understand that he wasn’t absent without reason. He was away, making an effort to achieve and create, not just disappearing. This way, as they grow older, they can witness the extent of his dedication and hard work.

The rather subdued Lion is currently betrothed to model Christen Harper, who was jointly recognized as Rookie of the Year by Sport Illustrated Swimsuit in 2022. She is also known for her role in the web series “Women of the League.”

Christen explained to Fox News Digital that she had thought her future fiancé had initially reached out to her on Raya in 2018. However, upon revisiting their messages, she discovered it was actually her who initiated the conversation first. So, ladies, don’t hesitate to take the first step – you might just be surprised at the outcome if you take a chance!

In their unique dynamic, the co-founder of Planted consistently cheers from the sidelines for No. 16, Jared. Christen praises him as an exceptional motivator, emphasizing his role in supporting her aspirations. She finds joy in cheering Jared on during football season. However, it’s not just about cheering him on; Jared is her primary supporter and the most dedicated ally in her corner.

If Hailee Steinfeld continues to have feelings for a man with genuine determination, there are certainly less appealing options than the Bills’ two-time Pro Bowl pick.

It appears that Josh tends to keep his romantic affairs private, as he himself admitted during an interview on “Pardon My Take” – “I find it hard to believe people are interested in that aspect of my life.” However, from what I gather, he makes a great partner.

In July 2023, he and Hailee took a trip to Mexico. On September 17, she was seen attending a Bills game against the Raiders, while in October, they both watched a Buffalo Sabres match.

The 262nd pick in the 2022 NFL draft was never Mr. Irrelevant to Jenna Brandt.

And while the 49ers have another sort of bauble in mind, Brock put a ring on it in July 2023.

The two married in Des Moines, Iowa March 9.

For a few years prior to 2023, Baker’s football luck fluctuated wildly. However, the Bucs seized an opportunity and ultimately made it to the playoffs. Throughout this rollercoaster ride, Emily Wilkinson Mayfield has been a constant companion.

2017 saw Baker, a Heisman winner from the University of Oklahoma, encounter Emily. Six months after their meeting, he proposed, meaning she’s been by his side through all the triumphs and challenges (and amusing State Farm advertisements) since he was picked first in the 2018 NFL draft by the Browns.

And the fairer half of the Baker & Emily Mayfield Foundation is certainly in it for the long haul.

Emily shared on Instagram on the 10th of July, “Celebrating our fourth anniversary with my beloved spouse! These past years have seen us evolve in countless manners, and I’m incredibly proud of the journey we’ve made together as a married couple.”

And on Dec. 4, she revealed their first baby is on the way. Quite the rebuilding year, indeed.

As a devoted follower, I acknowledge that filling Aaron Rodgers’ shoes in Green Bay is quite a task, but my mom, Anna Love, and my girlfriend, Ronika Stone, have full confidence that I am ready for the challenge.

Ronika, a professional volleyball player and daughter of the former Super Bowl champion Ron Stone, confidently dons Green Bay Packers gear. Despite not receiving special treatment as VIP guests at Arrowhead Stadium during a match against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2021, she dealt with the situation calmly and humorously.

Ronika shared on Instagram, “I’ve long dreamed about appearing on SportsCenter, but I had imagined it would be for volleyball, not this!” This post was made following a popular photo showing her and Jordan’s mom in the upper-tier seating.

As a devoted supporter, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the pivotal role that Joe, the Super Bowl champion with the Ravens, played in reviving the Browns’ playoff hopes for the 2023-24 season. When the call came, he was engrossed in his role as stay-at-home dad to our four sons and one daughter, along with my wife Dana.

As a lifestyle expert, I shared with Cleveland.com that Joe is far from sedentary. He’s always asking, “How can I help?” and one of his favorite ways was to keep me fueled with coffee. On an average day, I found myself sipping seven cups of coffee, thanks to him.

As a seasoned observer of human relationships, I have witnessed many couples come together and start families, but few can compare to the journey I’ve observed with this particular couple. They met during their senior year at Audubon High School in New Jersey, and ever since then, they have been an inspiring example of love and commitment.

Joe mentioned in a Ravens promotional video that the off-season has significantly altered his leisure activities. He and his spouse frequently ponder their past routines since they’ve become so engrossed in following the team.

Joe encountered Olivia Holzmacher back in 2017 at Ohio State. Once he moved to Louisiana State, he didn’t miss his chance. In fact, he led the Tigers to a national championship and the Heisman Trophy in 2020.

In the NFL draft, Olivia expressed gratitude and excitement when Joe was selected by the Bengals, writing, “Grace to stand beside you, Joe… looking forward to what lies ahead.”

Despite numerous challenges posed by long-distance relationships that have caused many other couples to part ways, there is great potential for these two lovebirds. Whether they’ve taken the step of engagement, like ex-Bengal Adam “Pacman” Jones hinted at but didn’t provide proof, remains a mystery.

Following 12 seasons as the offensive leader for the Lions, the team made a change at quarterback by trading with the Rams in 2021, which resulted in Matt and Kelly Stafford moving to Los Angeles. In his debut year with his new squad, he successfully claimed a Super Bowl victory.

As it turned out, he carried an unexpected advantage with him – his wife’s steadfast backing.

Kelly revealed on TODAY following the Rams’ victory that prior to every game, including the one in February 2022, she wrote letters to her husband expressing her belief in his deserving nature for the win. “It was about how much I felt he truly deserved this success, and why I believed he deserved it,” she explained. “Ultimately, what matters most at the end of the day is that we all have each other.”

The Staffords have been married since April 4, 2015, and they are the proud parents of four daughters. Their twins, Chandler and Sawyer, were born six years ago, while Hunter Hope is five years old and Tyler Hall is three.

In September 2023, speculations about the team’s quarterback and Sarah Jane Ramos being romantically involved started, as she posted pictures showing her attending a Cowboys game alongside his sister-in-law, Holly Prescott.

In November 2023, Sarah and Dak announced on Instagram that they are expecting their first child.

Oh, who might you be asking about? That’s none other than Heather Carr, a newcomer to NOLA, having moved here just recently. Her husband, who’s been together for 11 years, joined the Saints in 2023 after spending nine seasons with the Oakland-turned-Las Vegas Raiders.

At Fresno State, is where they first crossed paths. Derick was making every effort to catch the eye of an attractive waitress there.

“Heather told ABC 30 that she had responded something like, ‘I have no interest in that,'” or simply, “She said she felt uninterested about it.”

However, when she intentionally provided an incorrect phone number, he returned to the restaurant to offer his contact details – and mentioned that whenever she wanted, he would answer the call. It turned out a few weeks later that Derick was far from ordinary.

On certain days when he returns home, he seems withdrawn and exhausted, she pondered about her standout quarterback. “Just wanting to ensure you’re aware that I’m here to motivate and assist you, are there any specific ways I can support you?”

When it was time to move across the country, she stocked up on Saints gear in all sizes for sons Dallas, 10, Deker, 7, and Deakon, 4, and daughter Brooklyn, who turns 3 in November.

Ciara, who tied the knot with Russ in 2016, expressed this sentiment to Sports Illustrated in 2022: “Our vision for our children is strikingly similar, which I believe significantly impacts our journey. We’re in sync on this,” she said. “Given that our kids have greater access than we did when growing up, it’s crucial for us to instill humility and teach them valuable lessons like cleaning up after themselves and understanding that life’s rewards aren’t just handed over.”

In 2022, I, Russ, made a transition to the Broncos team after a decade with Seattle. Off the field, my family expanded in an extraordinary way. My little princess, Amora Princess Wilson, was born in December 2023, adding her radiant presence to our household. She joins my boys, Future Zahir, who was born to Ciara and rapper Future in May 2019, Sienna, our daughter born in April 2017, and Win, my son born in July 2020. Our family has grown even more beautiful with these precious additions.

In 2021, Russ shared with GQ that by the end of his work day, it’s quite late. After filming and practicing, he spends time with Ciara, and they both grin from ear to ear in the kitchen because they appreciate the beauty of their blended family, which is uniquely ours. It’s us.

Sure, offensive lines are great, but it’s Julie Hampton Cousins who really has Kirk’s back.

The elementary school teacher happily contributes to supporting her husband of nine years, as she shared with People. “I delight in entertaining guests for games, preparing meals and arranging snacks, and planning menus. I also take pleasure in managing various tasks for Kirk off the field, such as his vehicle maintenance, ensuring we all have restful sleep, and scheduling quality time with our sons. It’s a distinct role, but I am content to be fulfilling it.”

Although Kirk is nearing the end of his career at age 35, he expressed a desire to continue playing until his sons Turner (aged 4) and Cooper (who turns 6 on September 29) can vividly recall the experience and have had an enjoyable part in it.

Marissa Lawrence has been supporting her husband throughout their journey together, starting from their days at Cartersville High School in Georgia. Their photo collection captures every significant moment, ranging from their senior prom, their wedding on April 10, 2021, to Trevor’s achievement of becoming the No. 1 draft pick by the Jaguars shortly after, and numerous tropical getaways since then.

In 2023, on their anniversary, Trevor posted: “Each year grows even sweeter with you, @marissa_lawrence. Two years have passed already, and we’ve created so many cherished moments and shared countless experiences. I eagerly look forward to all the years ahead. My love for you continues to grow beyond what you can imagine.”

The third-round 2022 draft pick turned late-season rookie starter has a nose for numbers.

In 2020, Desmond shared a heartfelt message about Claire Cornett, his fiancée at the time: “The past 4 years, equivalent to 1460 days or 2,102,400 minutes, has been an extraordinary adventure with you. We’ve experienced our fair share of highs and lows, but in the end, it’s made us more resilient. I eagerly look forward to spending eternity with you.”

On April 21, 2021, the loving couple from the University of Cincinnati welcomed their daughter, Leighton Elizabeth Ridder, into the world (it’s true, Bearcat baby clothes even come in her size). They officially became a married pair on July 15, 2022.

Since Sophie Scott frequently attends Gillette Stadium for him, it seems only right that he reciprocates and visits the stadium for her as well.

In 2021, when Mac got drafted by the Patriots, the college-bound lovers from Alabama decided to relocate together to Boston.

2022’s first-round NFL draft pick quarterback tied the knot with ex-Princeton soccer player Amy Paternoster on June 24, before reporting to training camp in 2023 as a married man.

The couple, who started dating in 2021, honeymooned in Puerto Rico.

On Amy’s 22nd birthday, February 13th, Kenny expressed on Instagram that he feels incredibly thankful for her each day. Spending the remainder of his life with her would be the highest honor he could ever hope to receive.

Following the Dolphins’ decision to exercise their fifth-year option on him in March 2023, Tua openly shared with journalists that he pondered over the idea of retirement following his 2022 season, which was heavily affected by injuries.

And not least because he had so many wonderful things to stay home for.

On July 17, Tua posted a special photo for the first time, saying: “Typically I keep my personal life private. However, this occasion called for it.” The post was dedicated to his lovely spouse, Annah Tagovailoa, on their one-year anniversary. “I love you,” he added.

During an unusual glimpse into his personal life, Tua shared with journalists in November 2022 that he is grateful for his spouse and their newly born child (whom he introduced to the public at the Tua Foundation’s luau event held the subsequent April).

Tua expressed that the perspective of life changes significantly with having a child, and it’s an entirely new experience for him unlike anything he had faced before. He added that each person’s journey is unique when it comes to parenthood, as some might have boys first, girls first, or any combination.

That being said, he added, “I thank my heavenly Father up above that I got a boy first. Oh, man. I don’t know what I’d do if I had a girl. It’d be a little harder, I think, because I wouldn’t know what to do necessarily.”

2012 was nothing short of extraordinary for me as a proud Texas A&M graduate. In the chilly month of January, I tied the knot with my cherished college sweetheart, Lauren, promising a lifetime of shared memories. And come April, it was an absolute dream come true when I was selected eighth overall in the NFL draft. What a year to remember!

Since the beginning of their marriage, which spanned seven years in Miami, they moved to Nashville in the year 2019, accompanied by their children Steel and Stella, who are now aged 7 and 5 respectively.

In her interview for the Titans’ YouTube channel, Lauren expressed that while there are challenges in life, she viewed it as an exciting chance to explore Nashville and learn more about its vibrant community. She added that the experience has been incredibly enriching for her.

Previously, she swiftly joined forces with the Titans Women’s Association in her new location, not only to contribute but also to enjoy the special bond that comes with it.

Lauren stated, “There are certain aspects of our lives that are unique to us individually. I believe it’s crucial for everyone globally to possess such private understanding, as a foundation for mutual support.”
