Frankie Muniz is dealing with some tough hurdles in his NASCAR career.
Following the actor from “Malcolm in the Middle,” who began his professional racing career in 2023, encountered challenges during the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series on April 18, he’s now sharing insights about how a recent defeat has impacted his emotional well-being.
Frankie openly admitted on X (previously known as Twitter) on April 21st, “I’m completely honest: Mentally and emotionally, I might be at a record low.” He just felt the need to express this honestly.
In the recent race held in North Carolina, a 49-year-old racer, who is father to a 4-year-old named Mauz and married to Paige Price, experienced a mechanical issue that set him back by approximately 17 to 18 laps on the track. During a post-race interview, he disclosed that his power steering line ruptured and in an attempt to regain control of his vehicle, he tore a hole in his hand.
He was able to rejoin the competition after the mishap was fixed, finishing in 23rd place.
Frankie expressed his deep longing to be participating in the race instead, confiding this to NASCAR reporter Peter Stratta. He emphasized that this waiting period was the toughest challenge he’s ever faced. It’s a struggle, he admitted, to watch from the sidelines while wishing for competitive lap times when it seems like he’s already out of contention.
Despite the obstacle, the star of Agent Cody Banks initially felt a glimmer of hope. He shared that his truck seemed “quick” enough to match his rivals, despite its mechanical issue. However, he understood that he wouldn’t be able to push through that problem without potentially causing delays for other racers, so he aimed to “keep a low profile.
He said, “These situations make me think, ‘If only we didn’t encounter this problem, we might have ranked among the top 15.’ However, regardless of the outcome, I’m still learning, growing more confident. Mastery comes with time. I greatly appreciate my team and their dedication. Somehow, I seem to be under a peculiar curse.
Frankie has encountered a few setbacks on his racing journey. After placing 10th at Daytona back in February, he’s struggled to place higher than his personal target of 20th. To add to that, an incident last November, where he lost control during a race in Arizona, further hampered his progress. However, these hurdles haven’t deterred Frankie from pursuing his original profession – acting. In fact, he’s scheduled to reprise his role as the lead in Disney+’s remake of Malcolm in the Middle later this year, all while continuing his NASCAR career.
Prior to the launch of the reboot, he expressed an opinion about his well-known character that wasn’t widely accepted by many.
Frankie expressed to TopMob News in February that after viewing all the episodes, he came to understand that Malcolm was the least favorable character on the show. Before praising his co-star Justin Berfield, he offered some well-deserved compliments. He admitted that initially while filming, he didn’t particularly care for Reese, but watching it later from an outside perspective made him appreciate Reese more. It’s strange how viewing something from a distance can change one’s opinion.
