As a seasoned gamer and collector with a soft spot for DC Comics, I must admit that the latest releases from McFarlane Toys have me both excited and somewhat frustrated. On one hand, I’m thrilled to see new figures like Darkseid (DC Classic) Megafig and the Phygital wave of 7-inch DC Direct action figures hitting the shelves. The idea of a virtual Build-A-Figure is intriguing, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the Animal Man piece.
McFarlane Toys introduced the Darkseid (DC Classic) Megafig in their DC Multiverse collection back in May, and it was snapped up instantly. Whenever more were put on sale, they sold out just as quickly. At present, you can find it available again on Amazon for $39.99, but be advised that it likely won’t stay in stock for long. Additionally, McFarlane Toys has recently launched a Batman Forever Batmobile and Collector Edition wave this week.
“This DC Collector Megafig Wave 8 Darkseid Action Figure from the DC Classic line offers 22 movable parts for versatile posing and play, showcasing the iconic character in his original DC Comics style. The figure is compatible with other 7-inch figures in the DC Multiverse (sold separately). The package includes a soft cape, additional hands, an alternate head sculpt, a display base, and a collector card featuring Darkseid’s artwork on one side and a brief character history on the other.”
Moving on, McFarlane Toys introduced a series of 7-inch DC Direct action figures, branded as “PHYGITAL” releases, coinciding with the Darkseid figure launch. Essentially, each physical figurine will come with a digital collectible. McFarlane Toys is increasingly emphasizing this approach. With these figures, you can piece together a virtual Animal Man character once you’ve amassed all three figures. Indeed, it appears that digital Build-A-Figures have become a reality now.
Despite the fact, the latest addition to the DC Direct Phygital series is quite intriguing, featuring characters like The Atom (DC: The Silver Age), Superman (Our Worlds at War), and Green Arrow (Longbow Hunter). It’s worth mentioning that this is the second wave of figures in the series, following a Batman, Green Lantern, and Aquaman wave which was released earlier this year and swiftly sold out. These new figures are scheduled for delivery this month, and you can find pre-order links available below. Notably, U.S. shipping is free on orders over $59 at Entertainment Earth.
